Furthermore, this bailout is just ridiculous. All the moulding companies and parts manufacturers have already packed up shop! This money is not going to fix anything, so what makes the livelihood of auto workers worth more than that of other manufacturing industry workers? I usually support these sorts of intervention, because I don't believe the blameless should suffer for the mistakes of higher-ups. But throwing money at NOT fixing a problem, unfairly redistributing cash... seems a little pointless. Has anyone got anything to add?

Molding and parts manufacturers have pulled out? Um i don't think so. These manufacturers are trying to get out but they can't because of the lack of funds. Most have contracts so its not as simple as just backing out. There quarterly income and number depend on these sales and that is were the problem lies.
Its sad that the Canadian government is willing to put up money even though the united states can't because there is no "benefit" for politicians personally. GM and Chrysler have made a ton of mistakes but at the helm of corrupt politicians i don't know what to think

I agree that the money is not going to fix the problem, but it will help in not creating others. Many people will keep their jobs (atleast for awhile). 30,000 workers represents alot of people and if they all lose their jobs , the crisis (recession) will just get worse. It is a Band aid until some real help arrives. If you think that the bail out will just keep things "status quo" then youre wrong. The companies will restructure, cut redundant products, and re invest in making a better product. The current financial ruin of the Big 3 is a direct result of the American way...........and as much as I would like to see them fail, putting John Q Public and his family out on the streets is not the answer.

I like this thread. I especially like the picture on who is to blame. My opinion is ALL OF THEM! But they did not add the UAW in that mix, that gettlefinger or whatever his pathetic name is. That greedy fool should disappear and leave the Yank car companies alone.
I also agree that money will not solve this problem. I mean when you think about it, guess who will be behind the car companies: the airline industry. Handing out money helter-skelter is like waving raw meat to a pack of wolves.
Bloody foolish, Yanks. Bloody foolish with all this protectionist ideology. But then again, they did elect Bush, and then Obama...

This article isn't even true, the canadian government just said today that the big three won't see any money from them until the americans give them money. And the goverment never said 3.5 billion, they just said 20%
i also agree this money won't do anything, even if gm was making competitive products like honda or toyota they still couldn't survive!!

Where da hell is this 3.5 billion coming from? And if we got spare cash why wouldn't we be spending it on the bigger problems, there are probably over 30,000 homeless on the streets of ontario that will spend their Christmas with pigeons under a bridge somewhere with nothing to eat. Yet we have 3.5billion to bail out these idiots? If you didn't hate american cars before you sure have a reason to now. 3.5 Billion will last GM 6 weeks, that is our budget for public schooling for a year....I say we let them die, the immediate hit will hurt, but the economy will reballance itself fairly quickly, our money could be spent otherwise, if i thought GM was a good investment i would have made that choice myself and bought stocks, not let the government decide how to spend our $ on a BAD investment.
