Next Generation BMW X3 Spied Next to Current Model

What better way to compare the current BMW X3 with its successor than to put them side by side? Our spies have managed to do so with good planning and luck. If you think you are seeing doubles, you are not. The grey/ silver one is the outgoing model, while the confused zebra version is what's coming.

BMW X3 created a segment by making offroad-capable cars like the Jeep Cherokee look unfashionable at the coolest cafes. Critics were unrelenting of its styling when first launched in 2003, but they too conceded it was brilliant on the road, where it belongs. The 2010 model has plans on improving this situation using technologies like Dynamic Performance Control and xDrive.

Power comes from a range of petrol and diesel engines, the former both naturally aspirated and turbocharged while diesels only come with turbos. Hopefully this time around a performance X3 goes into the lineup, but perhaps BMW will wait and see if Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLK come with S/ RS or AMG versions respectively before making that move.

Oh no, what a bad sight. If eyes could throw up, mine will be blowing chunks.

I don't see an M version of the X3 happening. What purpose would it serve? Curious to see how good this car will look. I think Merc and Audi (esp. Audi) will mop the floor in this segment for the next couple of years.

It doesn't have to be an M division model, but an "S" version, like they did on the previous gen X5.

An 'S' version of an X3? Not cool.

Despite bad looks, the current model did fairly well especially in Europe. The new one might do well is US too. New X3 will however not be able to beat the Audi A5. MB GLK too has a love it or hate it look, but this BMW will be somewhere in between those two is my hunch.

Q5 is rubbish compared to the upcoming X3, barely a modified VW Tiguan with dull exterior design and déjà-vu interior styiling. It might not beat the Q5 in sales (they won't beat Toyota or Hyundai either) but what really matters is the superiority in handling and overall appeal.

totally agree about the Q5, in fact it is so bland I could barely notice it on the street, I would take the GLK anyday, it may not be preety but it have some character at least.

Beetle, if that's bollocks it says a lot about your driving skills and taste, that in case you have a driving license at all. I guess you'd be more into bling crap, a huge turnhead with autobox to apease your inferiority complex??

MB and Audi will have the lastest and greatest offerings and the X3 is yesterday's news until this new one arrives. Q5 will be first, but I would think the GLK may outsell the X3. True what you say about the "love it" or "hate it" styling but it should be a decent vehicle.

"It's sooo ugly blah, blah, blah"

You keep knocking the styling and BMW will keep cashing the checks.

Just shows that BMW can do whatever they want and ppl would still buy it because of the badge.

It's not the badge, it's the unmatched sporty feeling behind the wheel Audi and all the others (Honda, Infiniti, Mercedes AMG, etc.) crave to reach by all means but succeed to a lesser degree. However it should be said they have improved a lot over previous generations.

The next X3 is expected to grow slightly bigger. They're adding an entry level X1. Check out this link: http://www.worldcarfans.com/9081015.004/bmw-x1-and-x3-development-continues

The Germans are still playing the game - "Who can make the ugliest car ever"

I don't think that's the X3, it's too tiny, the new model will undoubtedly be larger than the outgoing one. That's probably the production X1, the point of which I have yet to discover.

What is up with all these new german cars??? Aside from Audi, IMO, they are ugly. New bimmers, new E class, new E class coupe, this, WTF???

in one of the pictures where the old x3 is turning left on the traffic light, you can see that the pedestrian light is green and they're driving on that!! haha
