Land Rover Discovery (LR3) major facelift spy photos

Land Rover released a very minor facelift of the Discovery 3 (LR3 in some markets) in August this year. What is this we are spying then? It looks much more pronounced where clear changes have been made to the front and rear bumpers. New square fog lights and two rectangular exhaust pipes give fresh detailing as well, so too do the rear lights cluster that take on a clearer, almost Asian kind of look. The entire look is much more Range Rover than Disco3, especially at the front end.

New engines will feature, both petrol and diesel. Land Rover is still in the process of relocating from the house of Ford, and therefore has no immediate plans of hybrid, although Land Rover executives do state a continuing parts-sharing arrangement with the former parent.

Hopefully, they'll drop the 3.6 TdV8 Engine from the Range Rover into the Discovery. A car like this should have some proper power!

They managed to make it look taller and narrower, and those have to be the fussiest taillamps ever to come out of the UK. Funny, they could have left the look exactly the same and just found a way to pull some weight out of it and they could have called it progress. Now it's just a tarted up dinosaur.

Please tell me this is just some individuals desecration of an otherwise elegant car. Otherwise they have, indeed, produced the sort of Discovery parody I hadn't dare fear they might.

It will still not pick up sales. Poor TATA, they bought the brand at a bad time.

I like the old front lights better -- and those rear lights look way too down-market for a luxury SUV -- more Asian than English (in other words "ricey"). I guess they're trying to appeal to a younger market -- well Land Rover, I think you are appealing to that part of the market who could only afford the tailights. If a diesel engine does come to the US then I might be tempted to at least consider it as a comptetitor for my $$$ along with the Touareg TDI (the only SUV on my list right now). Just gonna have to replace those hideous tailights.

Agree with RRHANS and SRT8. I am a Land Rover Tech and have seen a couple of these before. One on a '56' plate, I seem to remember. Why would they do a major facelift using the pre 'facelift' rear bumper and tailgate?
