you know, if you didn't want just about every other country to hate and stereotype you, try not to have your spokesmen say "y'all". you might do a bit better.. =)

One Failing Company + Another Failing Company + Dated Corporate Ideolgies that got them here in the first place + Taxpayer Bailout Money = Yeah... sounds like a flawless solution to me too

It sounds that chrysler will be sold/die and GM has to sell Hummer, Opel,..

i don't think it's the fact that they don't want to sell. More the fact that nobody wants BUY the brand. Who in their right minds would want a Hummer as a family everyday vehicle? They should be classed as luxury items what with their enormous displacement engines and so on. Muscle cars (as fantastic and novel as they are) are just too old fashioned and outdated. Sure they bring back nostalgic memories of a more free time and represent American motoring patriotism, but seriously GM and Chrysler, who told you to focus so much on them in the first place? You guys should've seen the signs when the Japanese started to build smaller displacement, fuel-efficient units...

we (brits) tried bailing out Rover over and over again, but their products just weren't competative and in the end they went bust... I see parallels here.
However for decades Renault was state owned and run and was (and still is, though now private) very successful. Would state-owned GM be possible... or is that just too marxist for the USA?

Is not better that GM sells OPEL(for a goog amount) and survive than do this what they plan to do(bancrupt)
What will be with the Insignia, next Astra?!?!?!??!

GM Chrysler merger was my view months ago. I think that is the best for the health of the auto industry. Although I think eventually, GM and FORD should stop competing and make products for different segment to fight Asians and European brands. This approach was taken by Europeans long time back. Merc and BMW did not make small cars, and VW did not make big cars. That kind of arrangement is needed between GM and FORD. And both should only keep two brands each, one eco and one lux. GM should only keep Chevy and Cadillac alive and FORD should only keep Ford and Lincoln alive. PERIOD.

Well I would agree, but DONT "BAIL" them out of a hole they dugg in the first place... I would think of myself as a democrat but this is a bad Idea. Sticking to 2 brands maynot work either, because who is going to buy the other brands? They will lose more money closing the doors in the short run. They need to go Bankrupt. Ford can last just a little while longer. and then bye bye volvo and Aston Martin... the only things that Ford owns that I like.

Car o Bar, I agree, GM should keep only Cadillac and Chevy maybe Hummer-If they can downsize the engines! No one wants to spend money on crap cars, I would rather buy a Honda than a Gm or Ford product, becuase GM Sucks! they had all the chances in the world to upgrade their product, and now they are whipped in the face! well am sad to see it all go down, but I hope I will see real Cadilacs that can compete with Mercs and BMWs, I know they Can, possibly not under GM tho. As with Chevy, going the right direction, but they need to improve interiors etc. GM were always cheap in design, look at the escalade, tahoe, avalanches and yukons, they are basically the same cars with different headlights... WHY? share components such as engines, chassis, suspension - the invisible stuff, but not the interiors and the body panels, imagine a Ferrari sharing body panels with Alfas, Maseratis, I seriously does not know what will happen, but I wouldn't buy it, the yukon must be an escalade replica?

I don't see that working, but who knows... there are a lot of weird marriages that work out just fine out there.
Maybe they'll live happily ever after, making lots of cheap plastic babies.

LMFAO and make cheap plastic babies .. took the words right out of my mouth! AHAHHA

Gm has proven that they can make quality products that are as good as or better than the competition. For all of you living in your holes of ignorance and for some reason fail to see this then shame on you. I can't say the same for Chrysler though. There is nothing that they make the is better than anything GM makes except mini vans. I hope that if this merger takes place then the new GM/Chrysler company will use GM products and not Chrysler's.

I had never been a fan of GM cars in the past, but I find it ironic that the company is just starting to make some vehicles that even I like. I hate that these current events are happening right now because they have really started making some great products. The new Chevy Malibu and Caddy CTS seem like genuinely good cars and it seems that the Volt could be a good product. Such a shame that it's just enough but too late. Wish they could have been making products this good 10 years ago. They might be a bit ahead of the game had that been the case.

I feel very little for Chrysler on the other hand. If they didn't succeed the only thing I would feel sad about is the folks that lost their job or were affected by the economics of it all. The 300C is the only Chrysler product that I like and it just isn't appropriate for the current times anymore. I'm 35 and I can't think of Chrysler ever being spectacular or appealing in any way during my lifetime. Always mediocre in my opinion.

I think we're all more grown up than 12 and are more mature than to judge a great company because of a current situation or just because we dont like their cars. a big factor in GM's crysis is the unions they have in the US. about $4000 off every car goes towards the union crap. 4 grand may not sound like a lot. but thats just off one car. on 5000000 cars it does make a difference

I don't think GM and Chrysler merging is a good idea. We've already seen what mergers can do in this industry and it's the main reason why Chrysler is in the position it's in today. And if they did merge, due to product overlap, Chrysler would basically cease to exist. So I say no to a merger. If Chrysler wants to create an alliance with someone, Renault/Nissan seems to be a better choice.
