VIDEO: Mercedes' new MyCOMAND Infotainment System
Mercedes-Benz is revealed its myCOMAND infotainment system at the LA Auto Show last month. If you were too busy to attend, a video clip highlighting myCOMAND's abilities is just a click away.
MyCOMAND is the Mercedes-Benz way of in-car entertainment and information retrieval system.
Merc says the system is user-friendly and simple enough to use that the driver doesn't get distracted too much. Features that can be accessed through myCOMAND include VOIP, satellite navigation, CD/ world radio player and a large hard drive. Even Internet can be accessed, which the driver can use for such applications as real-time traffic information recovery and other browsing functions.

If such graphics intensive interface is available while the car is in motion, expect them to get sued eventually.

Yeah like the dolphins on the Pioneer stereo in your '84 Civic. But don't worry it'll be in the S-Class which avoids accidents and does the driving for you. You can also get a waffle iron in the glove box for those rushed mornings and a computer monitored pedicure applicator for the wifey... sweeet!

i think it looks good, and car-o-bar i think that older people might find it abit hard to use but gen y wont have any problem when they are driving

"gen y wont have any problem when they are driving..." Yeah, right. How often do you hear of people (regardless of "gen,") causing or being involved in accidents because they were distracted by (a stinging insect, eating, drinking, shaving, applying make-up, selecting a radio station, reading a map, a mobile phone call, text messaging, "rubber-necking", changing clothes (!), talking/arguing with a passenger or other motorist, etc)? No matter what, when people focus on acts OTHER THAN driving when they are piloting a moving vehicle, their abilities are IMPAIRED. Further complicating the matter is that reaction times slow naturally, as a result of the aging process. Simply because one could easilty multi-task when 20 years of age (and perhaps was lucky enough to have sone so without incident), does not mean that the same person will be able to sucessfully do so as they age through their 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s.
HANG UP & DRIVE!

The intention for these systems is to remove all the extra buttons that would be present to control the myriad of new functions if these current HMI's (iDrive, MMI, COMAND) weren't available. While you are correct DieselDog, "any distraction is a bad distraction", think about how much time would be required to look for a button out of hundreds to control something as asinine as "seat heater distribution". If you don't agree, look at the LS460 interior with its fountain of small, labeled buttons. And like BabyMilo stated, it will be easier for gen-x and y to "adjust" to this type of HMI. Mainly because they have used similar ones since birth (Windows, Mac OS). Its not the perfect answer, but its currently the best. Mercedes has previewed a living (digitally), named, conversing avatar that will supplant these type of systems in the near future. That will be the best answer!

i think the technology is cool, whether we ever see it in the US is another. could someone tell me what model was that car I dont remember ever seeing or reading about it was it an CL550? SaFtey would be a big concern for me. Gen Y or Gen X or those who went to High School with Jesus, you have to concentrate on the road and not this system!! But still very cool

lets not worry about the MyCommand system...what about that dash? what is Mercedes- Benz doing with dash design these days, it's a dreadful stack of buttons, instruments and air vents and that ugly screen set up...nothing elegant about it at all. I am an unabashed Benz fan but they need to look at the new BMW 7 for a hint of elegant, well thought out, and ergonomic design.
