Positive side: It can't be worse than BMW, in terms of styling...

Um... im a bit scared to see it, I hope this looks like a Jaguar and not a Lexus...

Jaguar's have always been grossly overpriced in the US market. Hence sales weren't great.
Hope Tata don't make the same mistake!

Folks, all i would say is dont underestimate Tata, this is their first attempt on such a largescale and up market vehicle, but i am sure this will be better than the others around..
Some years ago people underestimated Hyundai, but look at it now, the Genisis has made the mouths of the other up market sedan supporter's shut with superglue.

I hope it won't be just a bigger XF or anywhere near that bland thing design-wise...

really difficult to tell what the final car will look like from these spy-photos.

Taking a look at these pics I can make out the following:
- a pronounced lift of the shoulderline as the it moves rearward, unlike the very flat shoulderline of many generations of XJ
- no rear quarterlight, unlike recent XJs
- a low nose without any of the highline fluted grills of recent
- faired in headlights, not individual bezels lights
- rakish rear window
- a high boot start line with a possible drop down to a lower trailing edge with what look so like signature XJ taillights
I doubt that will leap so far ahead they'll risk turning everyone off, but we can already see it is a world away from the current XJ and owes more to the CLS and Passat CC than it does to the S-Class or A8.

"no rear quarterlight, unlike recent XJs"
Looks like its going to be similar to the 1987-2003 XJs.

Just to clarify, Tata has no influence on what Jaguar is doing. And the new XJ was already conceptualised and finalised before Ford sold it. Even in the future, Jag will be run as a stand-alone company as do all of Tata's acquisitions.

Anyone else see a 1990 Camaro with the camouflage on? GM has made crap.

No round headlights, not a real jag. Only old men bought the XJ anyways for its way back looks, screw this ford mondeo front, BIG BIG mistake.....

How about replacing the X-Type first, then the XJ? The X-Type is uglier than this and it's been here longer than the XJ.

1) TATA design is not going to spill over into the new Jaguars. They agreed to Jaguar's current 5-year business model before they acquired them.
2) A spring 2010 model would quite possibly enter the market as a 2011. The Jaguar XF came out in March 2008 as a 2009 model.
3) Ian Callum is our chief designer, responsible for the Aston Martin Vanquish and DB9. He is definitely not from India, and is the one signing off on the XJ.
4) Jaguars have asking prices somewhat higher than others in the US market because they don't water them down and add all the options a la carte. An S-Class or 7-Series with the same options are as much or more than the XJ.
5) People who are accustomed to the classic styling of the XJ forget that Jaguar has a heritage steeped in racing. They dominated LeMans in the 50s, so it would make sense that a company looking to become more viable would get back to its roots.
