Pretty vague plans for the funds they want.. Its not about axing brands, its about which vehicle types theyre going to produce.

I think that they did it to themselves. They are never going to change. This time a bailout of $25 million what next? In a year all they will be doing is flying to capital hill again begging for more money in new company jets. I know a lot of ppl will lose there jobs if they don't help them. That is the big down side but I think that they should learn from their mistakes and not get a bailout from the capital.

No mention of Vauxhall/Opel or Holden, but the canning of Saturn doesn't bode well.

Opel is a huge company and GM was already offerd money to sell them to Germany and they were offered money for a enviromantal company that wanted to turn Opel into the frist green car company.

It is not about axing brands or CEOs cutting their salaries, which is nothing more than show, it is about producing quality cars and trucks which capture the eye of the public, both domestic and overseas.
Right now there is very little excitement in the line-ups of any of the "Big Three."

Great news! I sure hope this means they are gonna be axing the G3/G5/G6

What niche does Pontiac intend to occupy? The US outlet for uncoveted Australian cars? The latent car-based pickup segment? The brand has plenty of heritage but nothing in their lineup really carries it forward.
Pity about Saturn. On paper, having a US outlet for Opels seems so viable in a normal market. But again, nothing in Saturn's product line (except maybe the Vue) offers a compelling reason to purchase over another GM product or a competitor's, but at least they do small cars better than GM in the US. Clearly Opel is a strong brand in Europe...why dump it and cease to be a fully global player (other than Buick in China, and Holden in Oz)?
They're gonna need to develop more than just the Volt, and quickly. Let's hope they succeed.

Buick & GMC - 2 Core Brands ????
OKAY... GMC's are all Rebadged Chevrolets the Sierra, Yukon, Canyon even the Acadia is pointless now that the Traverse is in the lineup.. And Buick, no one buys the 3 cars they`re down to now anyways.
I`m puzzled. Pontiac Needs A Total Overhaul and I thought Saturn was in great shape..
GM is failing in Canada..most dealers here have all brands combined except saturn and saab, there are way to many rebadged cars on the same lot.
What a shame, this isnt the same GM i remember !!

Sell Hummer if you can find a buyer, perhaps an Indian or Chinese company will buy it to meet domestic military demands, and some commercial demand. Merge Pontiac and Saturn, Kill GMC, just rebadged hulks.

GM is so far behind the 8 ball. New product line too far off and no good products now ......too many trucks and not enough cars. Other US companies....Kia, Honda, Toyota, BMW. MB seem to make a profit on cars and trucks. Look at Porsche that primarily sells small cars. Chapter 11 is the only way. We do not know how long this terrible recession will last and the Big 3 will need more and more money. They should of updated the products and production lines a long time ago. The GM plant in China show is nice!

Govt should ask GM, Ford, and Chrysler to merge. That will drastically cut costs, and eliminate domestic product competition. Imagine the best products from the three stables survive and the slow selling products from them get killed. Example: Ford F150 survives, similar Dodge and GM vehicles die. Chrysler Town and Country minivan survives, Chevy Malibu survives, and amazingly useless, insane Chrysler cars die.

Why keep GMC when these vehicles are identical to Chevy trucks unless they are planning on keeping the GMC/Buick/Pontiac dealerships. Pontiac should go too and just keep Buick, Chevy and Cadillac. Who is going to buy such a small player as Saab? Maybe PSA or FIAT but they are also in wait and see status. Saturn can be brought into the Chevy and Buick brands easily. Sell Hummer to Mahindra.

GM, Ford, Chrysler, please do your best to reverse the public's impression of you guys. American car should be among the best car in the world, but now are falling behind European and Japanese cars. This is ridiculous!
I remember seeing movies and histroy of some American famous brands, like Buick, Cadillac, they all started with pure passion, and want to provide comfy, reliable, and luxurious car for Amercia.
The American car should just do so, and focus on the world market instead of America only.
You can do it! So, please do it thoroughly, and professionally!
