I saw a 1990's GTR the other day and wondered what it would look like beside a Porsche 911 from the same year. The answer is the Porsche would be way better.

The 1990 model of GT-R was great, but I prefer Porsche anyway...but it was really great ;)

And you need a good taste in cars, because yours apparently sucks.

The GTR totally fails! Unless you are some kind of Pokemon fan xD

hahaha ur funny, u have a golf gt, one of the most boring looking cars in the world, and u are talking about taste, omg dude, I wold rather use public transport just not to drive a VW, and pokemon fan? i'm sure u can find a better insult.
December 1, 2008 11:41 am
I didn't say that as an insult, I just wanted to point that you have to be a total Japanese fanboy to like the GTR more than the 911.
And please don't insult my Golfie ^^ I know it looks really simple, especially with the white paint that I got it with, but it drives MUCH more fun than it looks. Besides, it was a present, so I can't do anything but love it :)

Dude I had a Honda Civic Si coupe for about 2 years, with 197 hp, that was fun to drive with a great design, u can buy that or the Civic hatchback Type S(witch one do u have in Russia) that one I think it has around 175hp, it's in the same class and 4 a less money then the Golf GT, with a better design and better performance, the only reason why I sold my Civic Si it was to buy a new car 3 months ago, a car that I adore, an Acura TSX with 201 hp, :) it drives great and it looks even greater.Oh and don't forget, when ur folks want to buy u a car, tell them to ask u first, after all, u will be the one driving it.:p

word! the NSX will kickass and same with the up and coming Supra .. both aimed at the GT-R ..

So many cars are retro or look alike, it is nice to see something different and recognizeable as a special car. Example is the ZR-1 it looks like the regular corvette and that hurt sales of the original ZR-1 of the 80's.
December 1, 2008 11:03 am
485ps is the revised output of the standard GT-R engine, not the Spec V. Try 520 (and understated at that, as usual).
December 1, 2008 12:04 pm
any skyline/gtr was cool. end of. it was the thinking mans choice. not the "i havent grown out of my pre pubescent lust of a porsche" choice!
funny how the car magazines in the uk would rather have a gtr than the lambo. oh and i live in the uk. thankfully our motoring press isnt as biased as your comments are....finally get a life and open your eyes.
December 1, 2008 1:13 pm
I am not saying that the 2008 GTR sucks, and I know that it's a better car! But that's on the track, or if you like to race all day.
And because I don't live at Silverstone or Sebring but in an actual city, with lots of traffic, I prefer the Lambo with the phone number collector ability ;) Because you can't disagree that the Lambo is a real looker :)
December 1, 2008 1:32 pm
correction the gtr is the most accessible super car in the world. at home on the track. at home when going to the shops. thats the feat that nissan has pulled off. ANYONE can access is magnimity. its defies convention
December 1, 2008 2:28 pm
supercar? mmm don't REALLY think so, more of a very high end sports car..
December 2, 2008 1:22 am
then y does everyone else call it a supercar? The carrera gt is a supercar and this car can match its track times.
December 2, 2008 7:49 am
how many times do the euro-lovers have to reiterate this? supercars are NOT about track times.
December 2, 2008 8:42 am
OMG, is this a PS3 convention!?
RussianMafia just posted the obvious: the 911 is more elegant than the GT-R! But all you GT-R Church followers had to come and bash him!
Beauty might be in the eye of the beholder, buy you my friends, are car design blind!
December 1, 2008 2:53 pm
Excuse my dumbness but what does the PS3 have to do with cars? Is it because it's as Japanese just as GTR is?
December 1, 2008 3:43 pm
It's because GT-Rs seem to enjoy the same type of "fanboish" behavior from it's fans, just like the consoles do. I've chosen the PS3 in my argument because it's Japanese, it's over-engineered, it's developer unfriendly, it's the most powerful console that people don't buy and it enjoys far more publicity that it deserves. Do these ring any bells when thinking about the GT-R?
Oh, did I mention the "fanbois"? :p
December 2, 2008 5:46 am
i thought Porsche tested the GTR and it was slower on the track??? what happened to that
December 1, 2008 7:32 pm
Nissan told porsche that they should go to nissans driving school. Then they showed video of the stock tires being used in the run that made porsches statement inaccurate and stupid.
December 2, 2008 7:52 am
I'm a bit suspicious as to why the V-Spec Ring times aren't being posted. In my usual scepticism, I'd suggest that the first GT-R time was due to cheating and they can't get better times with the V-Spec... but then, what do I know?
December 1, 2008 7:59 pm
Or they are waiting for the marketing launch to publish the figures...
December 2, 2008 12:50 am
agreed, GanSan. hopefully sometime soon someone will do an independent test on the nurburgring, i'm rather sick of nissan's lies and porsche's exaggerations
December 2, 2008 1:34 am
Oh, will you be allowed to go on circuit as much as you want or will the warranty expire when you use it on its so-called home ground??
December 1, 2008 8:00 pm
The argument between the GTR and the Porsche is as good as Coke vs. Pepsi!
I love it!!!
I would love it if some unbiased medium would test the Porsche Turbo and the GTR on the Ring.
Maybe it would be a good TopGear episode where Sabine can drive them both!!
I'm sure Topgear wouldn't mind a possible boycott of their program by the losing manufacturer because they offend everyone anyways...
But on a more observational note...
I was in Tokyo and Yokohama for a week on business and over the weekend I saw more late model Porsches then GTR's. (I say weekend because people usually bring out their toys in the weekends and take public transport or drive those box cars during the weekday...so the weekend is a better choice of days to be fair)
So the GTR is even rare in its homeland.
AMG Mercs seem to rule the streets in terms of the numbers of them being driven around.

No Lucifa that's what your opinion of "super-car" is not mine or many others, The GT-R is a super-car for the 21st century, its as fast and faster than most "super-cars" but is able to be an everyday car and can go on roads where an ordinary Super-car can not. Not everyone bases a car on its looks and huge fuel gulping engines, the term of super-car is based on someones preference and there model of the world.
December 2, 2008 5:17 pm
i merely defend the opinion that a car's performance around a track has nothing to do with whether it's referred to as a supercar. would you dispute that and say anything that can match a supercar around a track is also entitled to be one? THAT is my point. yes the GT-R can quite easily match any supercar on the track, but it lacks some of the other attributes to make it complete. i don't like to quote clarkson as it sounds like i can't formulate my own opinion, but he was right on one point - there is something of an elite "supercar club" that is extremely difficult to enter into, because the car needs something that identifies it as one of them. this is, of course, my opinion, but can anyone correct me and name something about the GT-R that makes it stand out, so it can cut it with the best of them?
December 2, 2008 11:59 pm
its odd comparing the 911 vs the GTR. they are two different breeds apart.
the 911 is more of a playboy's car. fast and packs a punch but subtle. its for people who have louis vuitton luggage and armani versace suits. people who tend to live in penthouse suites and all.
GTR on the other hand is totally different. its like a harley davidson trotting biker or a gun slinging cowboy. what you see is what you get. you sit in it and you know its only build for one thing and everything else is just icing. its not meant to go 200+ mph or have your jaws drop with its looks. no. it is meant to take you around bends and twists that leave you breathless. hell it might even give you a whiplash. its for guys who want to pretend for however long they are allowed to that they are schumacher or hamilton on the racing track.
no point comparing the two. different prices different purpose. gtr is ?50k and 911 turbo is ?100k. and forget about comparing the gtr to the upcoming supra. they are thinking of introducing is as lexus lf-a and a price tag around about ?140k, thrice as expensive. even then it is going to struggle to kick gtr's ass like the old supra tried to but never could.
December 2, 2008 10:40 pm
Who in their right mind would pay an additional $100k over the standard GT-R for some carbon fiber and some suspension upgrades and 5 horsepower? You could do a lot more by just getting the standard GT-R and tuning it yourself for way less and get way more of a car that would kick the Spec v's ass.
December 7, 2008 7:10 pm
That's a point, that cob GT-R has 600hp and is a rocket just like many GT-Rs that have been modified my tuners, hopefully they make that transmission bullet proof to handle more power and torque output.
