Toyota's Tripple A Credit Rating Downgraded

Toyotas Tripple A Credit Rating Downgraded
2009 Toyota Camry Hybrid

Toyota Motors, likely to surpass General Motors as the biggest motor company in the world by the end of 2008, has had its credit rating downgraded from AAA to AA. Fitch, one of the big three rating agencies is the first to cut Toyota's rating, but may not be the last as the Japanese company loses its status of being the only auto maker to have a triple A rating from all three top agencies Moody's, Fitch and Standard & Poor's.

"The negative developments in the industry are so substantial and fundamental that even the strongest player - Toyota - can no longer support a triple-A rating," said Tatsuya Mizuno, a Fitch analyst, in a report.

The new rating will surely affect Toyota's borrowing costs upward and should a new rating be put into effect another drop rather than an upswing is the expected result.

Tripples? Loses its status? Were those errors on the FT site? By teh way, Northen Rock bank was still highly rated by such services the week before it went under, so I wouldn't worry too much about the insight of such companies.

I don't care if their Triple A rating downgraded to Single A. As long as they make good and reliable car. Not like GM, Ford and Chrysler.

Hay. Toyota is making a reliable care cause they are using the minimum requirements of electrical systems in their cars. Mechanical systems are much reliable than the electrical ones. I am an electrical engineer

When Toyota’s were made solely in Japan, there were really great, reliable cars and gained a just reputation for such. Now they’re made everywhere else their reliability has suffered but that reputation still (unjustly) lives on. There have been so many recalls for the (French- built) Yaris’ which Toyota, not surprisingly, have kept very quiet about plus a couple of people I know are having trouble with their new Toyotas… To max profits they probably do use the minimum requirements for electrical systems. They don’t spend a great deal of money tuning their cars for optimum handling either!
