I really do like the design language in these UP concepts. It's simple, sleek and clever, very foward-thinking but still very VW. The idea of having a cute little Chico from VW seems pretty sweet too. Let's see if they can make it boring until production time!

VW, bring the diesel... and bring it to USA. Fuel economy of 117 to 141 MPG will kill all the hybrids and the not so SMART cars and the ugly Toyota IQ. But pricing is going to be the key. It has to be under 13000. VW has been struggling to keep the pricing under control because of the EURO surge, but with European economy going south, the EURO pricing against US$ will also travel south.

Nice to see all these big companies - Fiat, VW, Mercedes (through Smart) and Toyota - investing on the micro car segment. I myself would really consider buying one if I was shopping for cars in that pricepoint. They're stylish little packages with a somewhat premium image, ultra compact size and reasonable space for two. In time, people will stop seeing them as toy cars and start perceiving these tiny warriors as the clever city life tools they are. Oh, and wouldn't it be AWESOME to see an Apple city car? A clean design with smart engineering and the famous logo on the front... well, just another step on the 'ipod-zation' of our daily lives. With the right price, would certainly sell like, uh, ipods. Well Steve, you might be taking too long!

I hope this car comes along soon. It's a growing sector and the European take on "K cars" introduces sophistication to match cute. They all need to be cheaper though. I hope the Chico significantly undercuts the Smart and iQ.

Who writes these articles, the article makes no sense: "Fuel economy projections range from 117 to 141 mpg for the diesel. Efficiency will be further improved with regenerative braking, stop-start" Are you saying a diesel hybrid or what, and how can you say 117-141 mpg when VW is only considering the subject.

You're no beacon of impeccable grammar yourself, buddy. =P I have no qualms over the quality of writing of this article, so why do you? If you actually read the article, Jackson mentions a potential range of three engines -- an I4 petrol, an I3 diesel, and possibly an electric drive train. The "projected" fuel economy of the 1.2L diesel is exactly that: an estimation of 117-141 mpg.

In South Sfrica a previous generation rabbit is called a chico, so i wonder if we'll get a name change. These cars are damn expensive here, R 120000 so plus minus 13000 euros. So much for a budget beater and in 2011 it would probably cost 20% more. Thats why the Korean cars do so well here. Half the price and far less problems.
