Time flies when you are driving a Porsche 911. So fast it flies that you forget there is a next-generation one coming up right around the corner. The next 911, dubbed 998, has been spied prancing around in heavy test mule camo. This car is due out in the year 2011, which is really right around the corner, if you drive a 911.

Spied vehicle is probably not a Turbo since those side air-intake vents are fake, and so is the big rear spoiler. What will not be fake however are those flat-six boxer engines we associate with Porsche so well, turbo power of course, names like GT3 and GT2, as well as PDK. PDK is the new 7-speed double-clutch gearbox employed by Porsche in its new cars.

Porsche is clearly not sitting on its laurels; they are getting on with the business of making cars.

Looks lower, longer(?) and the wheels look bigger.

By the way, higher res pics are out. See those fake intakes (made to look like the one on the current Turbo), the lower hole of the intake is real, while the upper one is fake.

On second thought, I think it is fake... Its a fake intake hole within a fake intake? Hmmm....

i drove the 997 carrera 4s pdk together with waler röhrl in the snow of saalfelden, austria, on saturday.

pdk is MUCH better than you might think, the car is just awesome! no doubt this 998 will be an even more astonishing car!

by the way: walter will not retire this year! he told me he had way too much fun doing his job and made a new deal with porsche allowing him to quit his job as soon as he likes

i think all this black taping and disguises are a way of saying look at me, im a mule. i think it would be more hidden if it was uncovered going. i mean.. as much as i love 911's they all pretty much look alike lol

sorry to let you all down, but this is actually the mule for the new skoda roomster- based 'porsche guantanamera'.

the new model will have a pointless concept, a weird design, a stupid name and lots of green diesel power.

like in good old porsche tradition!

What happened to the flat eight rumors circulating earlier? What is Porsche doing to stay on top? What of the engines? Any technical details, or just spy pics and drivel? I'm sorry guys, but there is very little of substance in that article. Why not use the spot to speculate at least, if you don't know what to expect?

I think this is a great site, but I fear that sometimes in your haste getting something posted, you don't necessarily take the time to make it something worth looking at.

i love the flat-six, but a flat-8 would be an amazing engine. Crazy torque and power especially with in Turbo form. The only thing is i think Porsche would have to make the car fairly bigger to fit it in back. I would imagine due to its design a Flat-8 would be very wide.

That rear-wing looks pretty good! Shame it's only for camouflage...
