The Audi S5 continues to be updated. First with the new 245kW / 333hp 3.0-litre supercharged engine coming for 2009, and soon it will feature LED tail lights (December production start) and the option of a new third generation MMI system. The rear lights, through the use of light-emitting diodes (LED) have changed their look from what could have been described as ordinary into something more elegant. Reverse light has swapped places with brake lights, and now falls lower on the cluster rung.

For its infotainment purposes, the Audi S5 will have the third generation MMI system with the latest multimedia interface. It features faster graphics, a large hard disk drive for storage of music files etc, and a topographical or 3D representation of images, as well as a small cursor that goes with the hurdy wheel/ switch.

MMI III is available for the A8, Q5 and facelifted A6. A5 can also get 3G MMI, but it only gets LED lights if it turns into an S5.

The "V6T" badge that will adorn the sides in place of "V8" are gonna look pretty weak.

Can't get enough of those LEDs!

The car has a very interesting design but it has the Audi interior .. which is very ugly .. and the worst of all, it handles nothing like a sports car

Lol, the Audi interior is considered the best in the luxury cars class. What do you consider beautiful if this interior is ugly?

I bet you love Pontiac interiors!

No doubt the US versions will be dumbed down to combine the brake and turn signals in one red lamp like they do now. In fact, the US models have two backup lamps per side but one shared brake/turn lamp. Ridiculous cost-saving measure considering they spend a fortune on LED DRLs up front. We want our amber signals, Germany!

when are they going to stop with the stupid LED light and ugly front grill..?

At least LEDs have a useful purpose (if they would stop squandering it). Quicker illumination, extremely long life, and easier packaging for styling flexibility and space saving.

Couldn't agree with you more about the Big Face Syndrome that still pervades in the industry. I mean, look at the grinning Mazda3, ghastly Acuras in the US, and silly Peugeot mugs. Funny thing is that modern lighting and cooling technology means neither the lamps nor the air intake have to be very large at all. It's just overwrought styling and car designers desperate to establish "design language" for a brand. Ironically, most of them end up making their brand's cars look more like everyone else. I used to be able to recognize an Audi just fine without a grille the size of Belgium.

Its very hard for design departments to make "small faces" when the vehicle front has to be tall and blunt to meet pedestrian crash standards. If the styling was more reserved, it wouldn't hide the recent increases in frontal area. Also, as panel stamping and molding technology gets more intricate expect this to get worse before it gets better.

With all due respect, that would only make sense if every new car on the road had a gapingly huge grille. But they don't. It's just a styling trend.

Ahh, but they do. Compare all recent front-ends to the generations before them and the difference is noticeable. Some companies pull it off better than others, but all have increased drastically in the latest vehicle generations. For example, look at the last three generations of 7-series (E38-F01). Audi is the only one with the single frame grille, but all manufacturers styling cues have become exaggerated. I cant think of any that haven't (save the 911).

well i am not against the LED lights but I just don't understand why audi has to emphasize it on every new car introduction as if it's the invention of the century... i mean it's fine when it's out on R8.. but it's not a big deal anymore on all of its other models... it's just stupid to keep talking about it.. audi is not going to disappoint or impress anyone ...

I can now see why car makers are asking for bailouts. You buy a car today and the very next day they spend money on pity changes such as lights (LEDS layout). They even have the audacity to release a report to the public on such 'ground breaking changes'. Clap clap clap but please let it be told to you that Sh!t don't change the way it smells no matter how it's lump changes shape. Next you'll give us a tongue hanging out of the gapping grill.

This article is about updates on the S5, not a blaring announcement about how Audi debuted rear LEDs. What's wrong with putting LEDs and a new MMI system on a premium car that costs over 50K. It would make more sense than to use conventional bulbs and an outdated Navigation System.

We understand that you are a BMW fanatic. Now don't make it your duty to go to every single article about an Audi and blindly find fault at everything. It just makes you look more ret@rded than you have already proved yourself to be. And it wasn't even Audi who put up this article. WCF chose to put it up so on its website if you don't like it then go b1tch at WCF, not rant about how much you dislike Audi. And wasn't it you who said you liked the S5 and the R8, but didn't like the rest of the lineup? Funny, because now you're referring to the S5 as sh!t. Kid, seems as if you have serious problems. Go resolve them on your own instead of venting them out at a car forum.
