German tuner MTM has announced its own version of the VW Scirocco R is on the way with a tuning package that includes both performance and optics.

The optics upgrade is handled mostly by the introduction of Michelin Pilot Sport tires on MTM bimoto 20" rims, which will set you back 5,500 euros for the wheels alone.

But German tuners are known for their seriousness as performance enhancers and here they provide enough Viagra to satisfy VW nuts everywhere. While the factory Scirocco maxes out at 200 hp for the 2.0 liter TFSI, MTM takes this road muncher up to 272 horses and, with the miracle of chip-tuning via a little additional tapping on their laptops and a few component upgrades provides the option to make the Scirocco R max out at 380 hp.

Churning crunch is also boosted by more than enough, taking it to 350 Nm at an early 3,480 rpms from the factory 280 Nm for the basic 272 hp version.

And kudos to MTM for providing pricing details and very reasonable ones at that. The chip-tuning/performance package, which includes new front and rear shocks, comes in at 5,285 euros.

The VA 380 x 34 mm brakes are 4,427 euros and the MTM Clubsport suspension rings in at 1,489 euros.

Base price for the Scirocco is 31,160 euros.

Nice... but they better be throwing in a few free sets of front tires.

380bhp + FWD != good times

380bhp FWD? Wow, this thing will literally eat tyres. Good luck on tight tracks!

20" tyres will seriously hamper performance but I suppose when throwing ludicrous amounts of power down, you'd not notice. Expensive tyres to replace but throwing this much at a VW, you obviously have it.

VW really have gone the route of BMW, by partially stuffing up their designs. This car - as does the MK6 Golf - looks seriously shite from the rear. Bloody Japanese invasion. I liked my cars GERMAN thank you very much. Not looking like a Subaru or Toyota.
