TRD TACOMA X-RUNNER CONCEPT

The Toyota Racing Development (TRD) X-Runner concept explores the boundaries of sport truck power and performance. The TRD X-Runner adds several newly designed and developed components and a carefully tuned chassis, taking the truck to new levels of performance and styling.

Power has been increased dramatically by modifying and upgrading the standard 4.0-liter DOHC VVT-i V6 and adding a new TRD designed supercharger and intercooler package. The supercharger features an Eaton Roots-type supercharger with an integrated air-to-liquid intercooler. Performance is further enhanced by a fully functional hood scoop.

TRD modified the internal engine components with new pistons, connecting rods, camshafts and other equipment to provide 400 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. torque, a boost of over 160 horsepower and 80 lb.-ft. torque. The engine is mated to the Tacoma six-speed manual transmission, using a special Kaiten billet steel flywheel that is 30-percent lighter than stock, along with a heavy-duty ceramic metallic Aisin clutch. DC Sports custom fabricated the true-dual polished stainless side-exit exhaust system.

The chassis received detailed attention to achieve optimum balance and handling, including lowered ride height and added underbody aerodynamic components. The exterior styling compliments the underbody aerodynamic improvements and features a new aggressively styled front bumper fascia and grille. New body side molding components carry the aggressive look of the front fascia and incorporate new full-length rocker panels with integrated side-exit exhaust. A special rear valance/bumper
assembly mates with a functional underbody aero diffuser element. Headlight and taillight assemblies have been modified with LED lighting. A color-keyed hard tonneau cover with an integral rear spoiler completes the styling concept.

Inside, the vehicle incorporates several enhancements that compliment the TRD X-Runner's theme of performance and styling. TRD Recaro Sport Seats with matching door inserts are used along with a smaller TRD steering wheel. Body stiffness is improved with a four point interior roll bar behind the seats. Function is added with a multi-function TRD digital display with integrated shift light and programmable data logging. The sound system is enhanced with an Alpine 5.1 Multi-Media Audio System with iPod capability, xM Satellite Radio and DVD navigation. A custom rear cargo
compartment and audio enclosure complete the interior enhancements.

I think this years SEMA, is going to be a big let down. All these concepts and "tuned" cars are so badly designed that they going to have to hand out barf bags at the entrance.
