Hyundai Reveals New Diesel R-Engine

Hyundai should soon join the elite group of motor manufacturers who enjoy considerable public confidence in their product. That's because of all these new offerings they give to the market, their fresh new designs and ever-strengthening engines. Two of the engines are new 2.0-litre and 2.2-litre turbo diesels, recently announced. They are based on an engine called the R-Engine which is available in the two sizes.

The new diesel featuring an electronic variable geometry turbocharger and an advanced engine control unit, pushes through 184PS and 392Nm of torque as a 2.0-litre. Notably sizeable in output that's for sure. More impressive is its 2.2-litre clone which makes 200PS of power, coupled along an astonishing 436Nm of torque. Quite incredible for a plant of its size.

Noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) levels are said to be some of the lowest thanks to a lower balance shaft placed in a stiffened ladder frame housing. Rigidity is therefore increased, in turn contributing to a more comfortable ride for passengers. The R-Engine has gone through some thorough workouts of over 42 months to ensure its longevity and economy, and will commence production for SUVs and sedans in 2009.
