Mercedes R Class Facelift Spied Again

Two successive facelifts cannot be a good sign. Yet Mercedes-Benz is doing just that with this spied facelift R-Class

Two facelifts of one model? Yip, sure looks that way, according to our spies whose evidence doesn't lie. Mercedes-Benz launched a facelifted version of the R-Class last year, amid very slow sales of the cross-over luxury 7-seater.

Rumours suggest changes will be massive upfront where something akin to B-Class. We aren't too sure this facelift will shore up sales as needed though. The R-Class has been one of those automotive mysteries ever since it came on the scene, never really taking up space in any defined category except "motor vehicle". Even the AMG version wasn't as popular as other models. I can't say the R is a bad car, far from it in fact. Apart from thirsty petrol versions, the diesel is quite frugal for its size, and practicality is a big plus for it. Perhaps the R-Class is a victim of a swing in public tastes?

more like a victim of the relentless pursuit for creating niches that dont hold water. something that the germans love to do of late. mind you bmw and audi are more guilty of these crimes than merc. and then their fans have the cheek to laugh at others. give me a break.

I think the main problem of this car was the horrible front. If they will change it, it may work out.

Horrible front and not a great rear, no way to treat a lady!

When will MB just figure out that this car is a failure, and the answer to a question nobody asked? Their resources would be better spent elsewhere.

i dont see why they bother updating it. In the UK it will have 1 more middle class mother with children buying it for the school run and it will spend its whole life going within a radious of a mile. Its not its fault its just its parents forgot one important thing before conceiving it. Market research!

This and the Trailblazer... eh, I mean Saab 9-7x, are pssbly the worst selling cars ever. I've only seen 2 R classes on the road and one 9-7x EVER.

It's probably the worst car in the Merc line-up, why bother, when you already have E class wagon, ML, GL and GLK. Does the customers actually care about these slight attempts of more specific models for specific segments with tiniest differences?
