The last teaser shots have dropped, and Nissan has finally revealed the 2009 370Z in full, roadgoing trim. We’ve got interior and exterior factory shots, and it’s clear that for its first full redesign since its 2003 introduction, the 370Z is going a bit retro. Just as in the images that were leaked this spring, the new car strikes a handsome balance between the classic long-hood, short-deck look of the original 240Z, while maintaining the taut lines and intricate lighting of current Nissans. The new Z’s interior keeps a similar layout but gets a stronger, more modern look with taller central gauges and a large central information screen similar to those in other Nissan/Infiniti products.

The name change hints at the reported 330-horsepower 3.7 liter V6 under the hood. The 370Z is also reportedly shorter, wider and lighter than the outgoing car, so the power increase will be put to good use thanks to the agile, all-new platform underneath.

The 2009 370Z is scheduled to meet the public at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 19, with an on-sale date in early 2009.

mmmm.... i dont know what to make of it. a bit hit and miss reaaly. the rear end is ruined thats for sure. not a patch on the original. too reminicent to the porsche 911. elswhere theres a little dynamism going on, namely the roofline and quarterlight. overall its more retro in appearence. wish it looked to the future instead..

Wow they really went retro on this 280z .. Looks a little odd now, maybe it'll look better in person.. The interior is a huge improvement..

I like it.

But... the question is: what about the weakest point of 350Z - quality of the interior?

I think it looks OK. I hope the cabin quality is improved. Sitting in the 350Z was like being trapped in a bin liner.

No sir, I don't like it. As a current 350Z owner, part of me has just died. This thing is so disproportionate. Reminiscent of the BMW Z4 coupe. I'm with "asif" in that I kinda wish they had gone ahead rather than retro. Lastly, I'll agree with all of you that the interior is a huge improvement.

On a side note...if these boomerang headlights make their way across Nissans entire line-up and end up on the GTR I'll officially no longer be a Nissan fan

well NISMO i have to agree that for you it will be a little harder as you own one. im hoping its gonna be knockout in the flesh though. for me its the rear lights that are completely ruined man! the current ones are just sensational shapes. groan....

Nissan are going to get a reputation for taking decent, modern looking cars and making them uglier. First the Murano and now this...

i agree with NISMO..... that rear just ends...not proportioned enough!!! interior is looking quite good though..which i guess is what matter most considering thats where you'll spend most of your time..

looks like it's gonna be a targa/hardtop like its datsun ancestors?? certainly it doesn't strike the eye like the 350Z did when released, but what's lost in terms of novelty is gained regarding dynamics (more power, less weight and emissions, improved structure, etc.)

PORSCHE and TVR decided to make a car together and called it a Nissan 370Z.

you're sure right about that Britboy. I thought they screwed with the the infiniti line as well, they look way too soft now. remember the first gen g35 coupe and sedan?... perfection in my book. this one on the other hand, I'll hold my judgment till i see one in person. I think the current 350 is pretty dam sexy.

I didn't like the new head/tail light on first impression but I have to admit that I'm liking them a lot more now. The entire look of the car is a whole hellava lot meaner and muscular; something the last Z seriously lacked... and I love it!

Looks nice! Sleeker and less 'boxy' than the 350z. I'm digging the retro styling too.

Ohh yeah, it looks so great, it will be a hit, a real rival for TT , Boxter and RX-8

What have they done, The rear I can get used to but the front is horrible, even the whole body look reminds me of a Porsche. Don't get me started on the headlights.

You know thats saying, "don't fix it if it ain't broken." and to me the 350Z was beautiful and even the powerplant was great.

I'm just going to hang my head in shame and pray a tuner, like Veilside or Nimso designs a better looking aerokit for this.

It's 240SX inspired, not Porsche.

dmanero
October 30, 2008 12:18 AM
240SX, NOOO. i don't see the at all. If you look at the rear where the roof slopes down and rolls to create the rear, it looks so much like a Porsche.

I really don't see and anything of the 240SX.

Opps, I wanted to say Z432, look at the side of the car,and u will see that.

One thing I forgot to mention, what is with all these car companies adding onboard monitors with GPS and all. Here in Canada we soon will not be able to use it, with their new stupid bylaw. We just killed a dictator and looks like we have a new one in Canada. Whats next we can not listern to our radio.

WOW! I'm no Bimmer fan boy but this is a Z4 incarnate. Whats up with the aftermarket-looking gauges stuck on top of the dashboard? Looks like something you get at Autozone.

I checked out some images of the z432, and I can see a few charictristics of that car in this model.

this thing is comical... heres to a 12 month facelift cycle, please!?! its a good thing im not a fan of these things, or rather the old one... cause i'de be rather embarrassed trying to defend this! haha leave the boomerangs in central australia not on the front'n'backs of cars... what a joke!

I think it will be more than 330hp. The Z's usually have a bit more HP than the G35 of the same year. The G37 has 330hp I suspect the 370Z will have 340-350hp.

they are expert in copying !!! they had mixed porsche ,lexus ,honda in the 370z and ruined what the Z were built for!!! they should make this a new series and name it 370R for exemple ...

I wish they had kept the old body size/proportions. This Z4 copy is a banana cantilevered from 2 apples. I bought a TT over a Z4 for that very reason. Also to trim the fat out of the old 350Z they made this one smaller, a mistake in my opinion.

very disspointing. i liked the initial teaser photo, but thats probably yhe only part i like i nthe car, the rear fenders. Nissan really messed up the front and rear of the Z. i feel bad for all you Z fans out there.

Proportionately speaking, this is visually the closest to the original Z car. For this reason I like the design, even though I can understand why some others don't like it. The interior is an improvement to me, but at the same time I feel like it is a hodgepodge of current Z and current Infiniti with addition of 3 instrument "tentacles" sitting on the top of the dashboard center. Not sure about the dash right now. Maybe it will grow on me. The quality definitely looks improved though.
