 New Audi TT-RS Details Leaked
Spy Shot of the Audi TT RS / AUTOMEDIA

In a letter to its German dealer network, Audi reveals new performance and styling details of the forthcoming Audi TT RS.

WorldCarFans.com has received from a reliable source a copy of a letter from Audi to its German dealers which includes more details of the upcoming Audi TT RS.

The Audi TT RS will feature a new 5 cylinder, 2.5 liter TFSI mated to a 6-speed transmission churning out a remarkable 340 hp and 450 Nm of torque. The new engine will make the TT RS one of the most fuel efficient sportscars around. Audi claims its direct-injection FSI technology will keep consumption under 10 liter/100km while still making the car capable of doing 0-100km in 4.5 seconds.

The exterior will come with front air intakes, 18" aluminium wheels and two twined, oval shaped exhausts pipes at the back. Interior design will be pure RS - with RS insignia on the instrument panel and the onboard computer menu. The cabin remains classic Audi metallic-themed with aluminium air vents against a black dashboard. The TT RS comes with Alcantara/leather sports seats with a distinguishing silver stitching.

The RS version of the TT will also be available as either a coupe or roadster. No details on pricing are available yet.

The accompanying photos are recent spy shots taken of the Audi TT RS at Nürburgring in Germany.

The TT RS is expected to be launched in the third quarter of 2009.

10L/100km (~23mpg) is impressive for a 4.5s-to-60 car, even if it is on a "combined cycle" (meaning N. American "city" mileage will be worse. However, I'll bet Audi prices this thing in Boxter S territory, meaning the 370Z will still be the bang-for-your-buck king, even if it does suck more dino-juice to get the job done.

I'm sure on the pumped up styling. It doesn't look a clean as the standard models. Maybe it's unfinished though?

5 cylinders for an RS model is ridiculous. I would think at least a turbocharged V6. And considering that TT models are already expensive enough, I can't see why anyone would pay the likely $70,000+ cost for this car. Yet I have not driven it yet so I have nothing else to say except that it looks pretty damn nice.

actually, an I5 fits TT better. Audi's 90 deg V6s are a little bit too wide to mount in the TT's engine bay transversely, while their iron-block VR6s are too heavy for a RS model. A question here is whether Audi will keep the iron block of Jetta's I5 or make a new one with aluminum to further optimize the RS's weight distribution.

I guess they'll keep the iron block

Whether a 6-cylinder is more prestigious than a 5-cylinder is not a real engineering concern, what matter are the actual performance, efficiency, mass, cost, compatibility to various regulations, etc. I wouldn't deny the psychological aspect of marketing, since after all it has to be sold, and to be sold at least as well as expected.

are you kidding? for a car to hit 0-60 in 4.3 and have that kind of efficiency is remarkable. on the Contrary, Audi is great at tuning efficiency with performance in mind. simply look at the R10

lol at 23mpg. with a 2.5liter. Audi really doesn't know how to tune for efficiency. Then again it is an rs model...

0-60 in 4.3 seconds actually, 0-62(100km) in 4.5 is pretty quick. I think it's actually cool for Audi to go older roots with a inline 5. I hope they cast a aluminum block. Usually Audi's engines are pushed really far forward and make them nose heavy. Will be interesting to see the price and actual production figures when it comes out.

0-100 in 4.5, nice, i would take it that they did put the turbo in judging by those numbers. nice to see the 5cyl back in the audi line up.

GPKH, please calm down. YOU DONT HAVE TO WRITE LIKE THIS TO CONVEY YOUR POINT. It just shows that you know what you are saying is so retarded that you think you need caps to add some crediblity to your already incoherent and flawed argument that doesn't make the least bit of sense. Grow up.

GPKH.... The accronym "RS" signifies the term "Renn Sport" ,or motor sport in Greman. Kind of like Porshe's "RS".

Darth Vader your car has arrived. Love it or hate it the TT at least cannot be mistaken for anything else. A few sprinkles of the original Bauhaus influence would be nice though.
