These are the first leaked photos of a Chevrolet concept set to spawn a new family of products for the brand, announced at GM's 100 year centenary celebrations last month. This new family, which is particularly important to South American markets where a GPiX derivative will replace the Corsa, will consist of sedan and pick-up truck variants in addition to hatchback models, while the range may also boast a small crossover vehicle similar to the design study.

Based largely on the outgoing fourth-generation Opel Corsa, the Chevrolet Viva will measure up with similar dimensions to its European donor, with a 2.5m wheelbase and 4m length. Engines expected for South American markets include the 1.4-litre Econo.Flex and a further 1.8-litre drivetrain.

Further details and high-resolution photos are expected to emerge after the car's debut at the Sao Paulo Auto Show on Monday.

There may be a pattern here. Seems like when car companies get large, their designs tend to become rather dull.

Now American car companies are some of the largest car companies in the world, together with Toyota, and all of their recent designs tend to be uninspiring…!

Why is that? …too much bureaucracy? …too many designers spoiling the design? …internal politics?

while it's nothing spectacular, the exterior can be lived with, however the interior looks like from Space 1999 scifi series...

The problem is that American car companies need to stay one step ahead, and cannot make sacrifices in advancements for profit. Conversely, American factories must become streamlined and any fat should be cut out costs-ideally the expenses are so great the factories should be outsourced and at the same time upgraded with the most efficient and progressive technology. This car is crossover of a Chevy Cobalt/Opel Corsa/Saturn Astra/Ion-cars which are dated and have odd proportions. But to play to existing car's strength they already use 2.4l truck engines and have a tall and rigid shell (think VW beetle). The design has premium details and the fundamental profile is morever correct. The rear of the car falls apart however since the car looks like the Cobalt sedan in hatch form. They need to frame the liscense plate to the liftgate to properly frame the rear and give an upscale appearance. Also I hope they bring resolution the the black camo at the C-pillar, looks like a bandaid.
