This is going to be one hot hatch....looks like it retains the great shape of the old one, which you gotta love
Like the alloy and grill update to (more from there concepts)

yeah good..just like the last one ...which was an ABSOLUTE DOG....the likes of Megane R26 R have no chance against this.....yeaaahhh riight...Evo and Sti where is your head? this is nowhere near the Evo and the new STi is an ABSOLUTE dog...go read some reviews please...

I was disappointed with the previous and current generation Mazda6 (US). The old Mazda3 was a superior drive. This one looks even better. 300hp with AWD and I'll be darting into the showroom. EVO and STI are too "boy racer" oriented whereas Mazda3 has always been the one to better bridge the gap.

Absolute Dog???...this is way cheaper than the likes of an evo and sti (bang for your buck)..Looks like a good package to me, and if your from America you can't compare it to the Megane...so yeah it was reviewed

When racing drivers say that having more than 250 bhp on a FWD machine is too much, Ford, Mazda and the entire "hot-hatch for hot-heads" party of manufacturers should listen...

I haven't heard that said for a couple of years. LSDs have moved on a lot since then.
I hope this is AWD though.

well first the current one is NO DOG, i see you havent driven one or gotten SMOKED by one yet... second i was saying that if they put 300hp and awd it WOULD smoke the evo and sti... The mazda has better looks too
October 22, 2008 2:12 pm
It could 'smoke' the STI, but smoking the Evo? pfft, that will even be a hard challenge for the 6 MPS to do right now! =P

ok here we go...
"All of which only confirms something we?ve known for a long time: speed alone isn?t enough. Mazda can give itself a pat on the back for making a 256bhp front-drive hatch manageable, but you don?t get the better of cars like the Focus ST and M?gane 230 with power alone." - from EVO...
then...

how much proof do you Noobs need?
October 23, 2008 3:50 pm
I remember seeing this yonks ago? what did they do with video-star ?Monkey?? (Chris? Whatshisface?)
By the way, shouldn?t ?Noobs? be spelt ?Nobbs??
Fair point with the video: assuming you have access to a Welsh-like country road to drive on (as this was the basis for the test!). Focus ST didn?t make it into the top 3 and this is the new Mazda3 MPS which may (or may not) better than its predecessor (which I didn?t like that much) video tested here.
Now what if, most of your roads are dual carriage-ways? Like in the? ummm, US of A for example? Then straight line speed becomes important. Think of it like NASCAR compared with WRC. Horses for courses, I?d say!

Also we don't have the renault here in America but damn that thing is ugly... I don't know about the performance but I wouldnt buy one because of the looks. eww
October 22, 2008 2:19 pm
250hp FWD too much? the peugeot 306 was 300hp fwd and won everythings on asphat rally against AWD cars.
Not the 5 cyliders, still the disi with his top mounted intercooler. Might be AWD if you look at all the equipments mesuring back wheels behavior.
October 22, 2008 2:29 pm
That's sweet! For enthusiasts I'd like a 300hp AWD version, in that case Mazda may consider a go at the WRC...
October 22, 2008 3:47 pm
...thats retarded. If Citroen knows how to make a World beating rally car, why can't they make a road going version? Or at least something to rival the new Megane RS will do.
October 22, 2008 6:03 pm
MazdaSpeed3 + 300HP Turbo + AWD = SEXXXXXXXX = sti/evo beater = love = my garage.

"which platform is it built? Is it based on the same front wheel drive Ford C1 global platform as the current generation Mazda3 and Ford Focus. Or will it be based on the new C2 platform which is speculated to accommodate all-wheel-drive?" -WCF
The current platform of the Mazda 3 can already accomodate AWD, the JDM Axela (Japanses Mazda 3) has an AWD option on the 2.0 liter models.
