These are the very first shots of a new model from Korea that is to become Hyundai’s answer to the Mercedes CLS and VW Passat CC or Opel Insignia: a four-door coupé-like saloon. Spy snappers caught it undergoing handling-tests on a lonely test-track in northern France. As it’s going to have similar dimensions, we reckon the new car is going to make use of the chassis and underpinnings of the new Sonata. It’s also very likely, the new four-door coupé will get the Sonata’s choice of engines, namely the 165-hp 2.0-litre four-cylinder and 250-hp 3.3-litre V6 petrol engines plus the 2.0-litre CRDi diesel with 150 hp. We do not expect the car to be available before late in 2009 or even only in 2010.

coupé is the past tense for "cut" in french. it could relate to the roofline - it doesn't necessarily relate to the number of doors.

Man, wtf is this?! Now every 4 door sedan with a bit of sporty looks is a coupe?! This is a 4 door sedan... not a coupe, nor anything else...

agree this is hardly a 4 door coupe, the CLS and Passat CC were more swoopy, this just looks like a stylish saloon. Is the whole Audi saloon range 4 door coupes? No, and neither are things like the Vectra, mazda 6 etc... and theyhave just as curvy rooves as this

I'm guessing that this is the European Sonata which is due in 2010. Kia has been testing the 2010 Magentis/Optima sedan in Spain so its about time too to see the twin.

Are they bringing back the Dodge Intrepid and badging it a Hyundai? Or is this the Avenger? Either way, it's probably gonna suck like the aforementioned.

Theres no such thing as a "4 door coupe" those words don't go together. Someone needs to tell Mercedes and Volkswagen this. Theyre just sexy sedans. Also, does anyone else think this looks like the old Ford Traurus...?

im not a fan of merc but the cls is the original and still the best. the vw is a joke. and the hyundai would go that way if its marketed as an alternative to these cars. the cls is beauty personified in this sector at least.

How about "four-door sedan with fastback shape"?
The keicar-sized wheels cheat us. The rear window should have been moved backwards to allow more rear heda room. The short front end shouts "only small displacement engines", which is good, but doesn't match with the long tail.

It's a 5 door (hatchback) sedan/saloon.
A coupe has 2 doors. No more, no less.
