L.A. Auto Show Design Challenge Entries - Japanese & American Automakers

Oh lord.. Why do car companies waste money on something like this? I do understand people who design vehicles like these on their free time for their own fun, but why on earth do car manufacturers do this?

If anyone had a doubt about the not so recent design supremacy Japanese manufacturers have earned, I think this is more than proof. Where GM still play around with the basics, Mitsubishi reinvent the wheel, literally. The best thing about that concept is that it could actually work! Notice how everyone presented polished renderings of the concept except Toyota with their medium-well Vexel Photoshop rendering which I personally find to be the work of an amateur rather than a real designer. Once again I yawn at the oferrings of Toyota. Pass the crown...

Very interesting designs. Car companies do need to spend the resources for this kind of creative exercises - however wild they are. Remember, all the seemingly "standard" equipments in our cars today began life as one of these sketch drawings.

Let's face it, the best designs come from the US and Japan, and don't tell me about italian cars, those are for girls or snobs.
