2010 Mercedes GL-Class Facelift - Why bother?

2010 Mercedes GL-Class facelift / AUTOMEDIA

Despite the upcoming facelift to the GL-Class being a soft facelift with only minor alterations to the front and rear bumper fascias and tailamps, we know a lot of development work still goes into these prototypes. Our oldest coverage of the GL-Class facelift goes back to August 2007, and still we know Mercedes puts a significant amount of design and preparation going back even further.

So, the big question – is it worth it? For us enthusiasts, it takes a lot to impress us, so these minor upgrades seem insignificant. But to the regular consumer that doesn't check the WCF front page every 15 minutes, perhaps it's appealing - although we have our doubts given the current economic climate of the world today in addition to a mass exodus from such large vehicles in the midst of global warming concerns. Hopefully, the GL 320 Bluetec can compensate?

Well it certainly looks more aggressive from the front. The GL always had a stupidly smiling-ish sort of face (I'm not talking about the 550, that's a beast), but I think they fixed it up. If only all the GLs had the 550 front.

it is very menacing for you in your rearview mirror

Especially if your rear view mirror is at level with it's bumper.

i love this car, i think it is pretty cool... and now after the facelift i think it looks better, if MB want to keep up their sales of the GL i think they should make a hybrid or something of that nature.

Never, ever, seen one of these on the roads, compared to the 100's of ML's about. I'm guessing this isn't sold in the UK?

I've never ever seen one on the road in Australia either but they are definitely sold here ... I just checked the official government figures and a total of 439 were registered in 2008 compared to over 1800 M class and 328 to date in 2009 ... that makes them VERY thin on the ground in a VERY big country ... but the real question isn't why bother with an update but why bother building such a boring ugly box in the first place

I've seen even more changes to the current model already. Different mirrors. (Similar to the C-Class), changed interior...Steering wheel, audio etc. But all very very minor. Not much change to the car though.

Mercedes is putting the LEDs on the front of everything now. I guess they wanted to update the GL too.

It needs new mirrors. It looks so stupid being as huge as it is with those little mirrors, it reminds me as someone with really small ears... it needs mirrors like on the G glass or the Range Rover, you know, not fully attached and not so round. I have a strong disliking for this car though, I think its because of it being made in Alabama because I dont like the M class and I hate the R class.

EXACTLY, WHY BOTHER, IT'S GOING TO POINTLESS ANYWAY, LIKE ALL THOSE AUDI RS THIS AND THAT AND R8 TT WHATEVER. SO POINTLESS BECAUSE THEY CAN NEVER BE AS GOOD AS BMW, NO MATTER HOW HARD THEY TRY.

BUT I MUSTADD THAT THIS CAR IS REALLY UGLY. DON'T COMMENT ON BMW'S DEIGN - LOOK AT THIS THING. THE HEADLIGHTS ARE JUST STUPID. THERE ARE A FEW MERCS THAT'S DISGUISTING: THE CLS (LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE VOMITED ON THE DEIGN PAD), THE R CLASS ML AND THIS G.

Better looking than anything Bangle's done. Why don't you calm down.

The CLS looks like "someone vomited on a design pad"? I bet you drive a Pontiac Aztec!

I like lots of Mercs (I own two) but the body of this thing always looked like a big Jeep to me.
