New 2010 Mercedes E-Class Down to Last Strips of Camouflage

2010 Mercedes E-Class spy photo / AUTOMEDIA

Just a few more spy photos of the 2010 Mercedes E-Class, showing the new grille and thinly-disguised body lines.

The next-generation Mercedes E-Class, set for a March debut at the Geneva show, has been caught with minimal camouflage during testing. The revised lines, which split the difference between the C-Class and S-Class, are evident under the tape, as is the new grille and headlight treatment. The reskin is most evident at the rear, where a faster rear windshield line and more coupelike C-pillar eliminate much of the boxy look that’s been common to E-Classes in recent years.  The new styling is by no means groundbreaking, but should continue to please the large number of loyal E-Class buyers while keeping the car's looks current.

The usual wide range of engine options is expected, with V6, V8 and Bluetec diesel offerings. The new E-Class wagon has also been spotted in testing, and will likely debut some time after the sedans hit the showrooms.

The E class is too conservative. I understand that Mercedes is taking minimal risks and trying to appeal to a wider consumer base, but I think the design is just too simple; it just expands a bit on the existing E class rather than taking a bold step. Compare this to its competitors; the Jag XF, BMW 5 series, facelifted A6, Acura TL. I think this car looks relatively boring in comparison to the others I mentioned. Yes I like the design because it is nice, clean and elegant, but too conservative for my tastes. Maybe without the camo, it may look more interesting.

Isn't that what the CLS is for? The E-class probably sells more as a taxi than an executive car, so conservatism and practicality rule.

RS5
October 21, 2008 2:04 AM
The CLS is quite radical. I would think something slotted in between the current e class and the cls, especially that there is a new cls that's going to be out in a matter of years. And think of the price difference too.

rs5, you've got a point when it comes to the competitors - it's understated, but not as understated (and not as good looking) as the a6, not as strikingly attractive as the 5 series and not as super-modern as the jag XF. the styling has nothing that sets it apart, really.

Well this car looks conservative because it draws alot of conservative buyers...can't argue with that.

why dont they do a 65 amg model?

RS5
October 21, 2008 12:19 AM
They only do 65s on flagships and extremely high end models ie. s, cl and sl.

October 21, 2008 12:40 AM
back again you racist little peice of $hit. will somebody on WCF do us a favor and keep this fag from making racist comments and irritating other users? search plasma_cluster and you'll see what a racist elitist little fag this kid is.

Bristol411S3
October 21, 2008 1:29 AM
How is that comment rascist? I find your swearing and homophobia more offensive actually.

RS5
October 21, 2008 1:36 AM
read my comment properly. he's been around before.

Bristol411S3
October 21, 2008 1:45 AM
Yep, read it and I can't see anything rascist in anything I read from that user. A little Jingoistic perhaps, but I am not sure how that offends anyone else, particularly people of a specific race.

If you've got a problem with a post use the Report Abuse link. Don't undermine your point by using bad language and insulting people's sexuality on posts. That makes you worse then the opinion you hold of him.

RS5
October 21, 2008 2:02 AM
obviously you weren't looking in the right places:

"some sour lemons love the pontiac trucks and some of us love the BMW trucks. shows the difference in class and income."-very elitist

"Looks like a JAP car."-very racist (JAP is a derogatory term for Japanese people)

"ya british leyland was farse, everyone knows that"-racist

"porsche will sell tons and will reel in the cash. the germans keep swallowing companies that are willing to sell themselves"-elitist

"is it more power then german car or just typisch american weak engine?" -racist and elitist

"the C63 benz has more power. the americans lsoe the muscle war"-immature

on an american car: "looks like a bore, drives like a bore, perfect for people who look like bores."

and there are a lot others undermining just about every single country not german. you see why i hate this fag. he's immature and ret@rded. I wasted 5 minutes of my time looking up those comments for you. now go figure

RS5
October 21, 2008 2:07 AM
and as an american myself, it gets very irritating to read those comments.

netlover
October 21, 2008 3:16 AM
Yeah and you do realize that what you've said is by far worse than all of his comments put together right?

I find nothing "racist" about any of those comments either. If you can't accept criticisms of your country's cars then maybe you shouldn't even be here.

I find your homophobic insults by far worse.

RS5
October 21, 2008 5:09 AM
I don't make racist comments. And if you think calling him a fag makes me homophobic...it is widely used as a general insult not directed specifically at homosexual people. I'm not elitist either. If you think those comments aren't insulting and irritating, good for you. I find them extremely annoying after seeing them on every article, bashing every car that's not German. This person whoever he is is very irrational, annoying, and it just makes me sick and tired to read his pointless comments. Not to add to the fact that he has multiple usernames and will often validate one comment with another from a different username.

You call his comments criticisms, you must be daft. Look at the context. He's racist and will do anything to bash anything American and non-German. You think thats ok..whatever you can go join him too.

BabyMilo
October 21, 2008 10:13 AM
RS5 ok we see your opinion, cant plasma_cluster also have his opinion and if his opionion is that everything non-german is rubbish that is his problem and you dont need to read his comments

RS5
October 21, 2008 11:06 AM
He has no opinion except that Germans are superior to everyone else in the world. His extreme comments have been deleted from this forum; they were much worse. There is not one single non-German car that he has anything good to say about. He doesn't hold opinions. Every time he's on the forum he's on a rampage about how everything non-German is inferior. And although Germany does produce the best cars, there is no reason at all to blindly bash American and Japanese cars as he does.

but they've flashed it off with a recent concept already... in a coupé-mix-station-wagon form...

Anyone see a resemblance to the previous model Accord, esp in the rear end pics?!?! The current model E may be a little conservative compared to the BMW 5, but very classy. This one... without the badging and the star I wouldn't even know this was a Mercedes.

October 21, 2008 9:27 AM
RS5, are you and Xenomorph the same person? You speak the same 'language'.

American cars are actually extremely inferior to German cars mate and that's a fact. It hurts but its real.

RS5
October 21, 2008 10:56 AM
Just as much as you and GPKH and all those BMW fanatics out there are the same people...you all speak the same language.

mustang5507
October 21, 2008 9:50 AM
Wisp...back up your claim please. Until then, I cry bullsh*t.

The new E...at least it looks better than the C-class. Which, btw, the CTS is a much better overall car than the new C-class. And it's American =). It's more powerful, got a much nicer interior styling and execution, much more premium-looking exterior styling/execution, and better yet, won't be sold primarily as a taxi/parking meter car. So people who spent $40k here in the states won't wonder why, whereas the same C180's running around in Europe can either belong to some politician or business man, as well as a cab operator.

JackJack
October 21, 2008 9:55 AM
Can't wait to see the real thing. gonna be a real seller as always. I doubt you'll have two different grill's as it's more conservative than the C-Class.

RS5, I don't get your point. Having an opinion on a car's quality and value now makes you a racist? No, it merely makes you opinionated and biased towards a brand or style of vehicle. Racism is based on Culture, skin colour and social standing towards your fellow man. You can drive a porsche and be a racist or you can even drive an American car, Dodge, Chrysler, Ford or even a Chinese POS and be a racist. Don't take it so personal man. You Yanks don't make the best cars in the world, sorry to say. And if anybody knows about racism in society it's me. I'm from South Africa. We lived it!!!

RS5
October 21, 2008 11:03 AM
This person doesn't have an opinion on a car's quality and value. He thinks that anything that is not German is a POS. You will not see one non-German car that he says anything good about, and his comments are riddled with references to German superiority over everyone else. He thinks that non-German automakers are inferior to German automakers. And to try to prove his point, he makes multiple usernames and bashes those who try to refute his statements. Most of his extreme comments have been deleted from this forum; they were much worse than the ones I pointed out. I'm sorry that you had to live racism in society, and it's people like plasma_cluster with his superiority that cuase it.

I know American cars are not the best in the world, but we have a few things I'm proud of; The CTS-V, Corvette C6, Z06, ZR1, Camaro, Challenger...these hopefully will be long standing icons of America's ability to produce better cars.

lucifa
October 21, 2008 2:08 PM
you can state your opinion, and back that up with evidence, but to just stereotype a car because of its country or maker is moronic. yes, i like the german cars more than the japanese or american, and i like bmw's philosiphy more than merc's or porsche's, but most mercs and just about all porsches are superb cars in their own right. and the yanks/japanese have made some good cars (modern corvettes, nissan GT-R etc). it's down to what you prefer, and your opinion is not finite enough to declare one type of car is better than another.

but rs5, i think we can all agree anything made by the chinese or koreans is (almost) universally a POS =P

The rear end will be pretty much the same as the actual S class, and the front is very similar to the current E class...so i think it is a little boring...

There happened same as with VW Golf VI. Blandness is preserved or reduced to add more class for the mainstream models. Nice job.

E-class is for 50 year old engineers so this should be just fine. Thats why i dont like it. Could change my mind when i see black e63 amg with no camoflage though.

mustang5507, credit should be given to the germans and the domination they have on the car industry. American cars are good in their own way but world wide 60% to 90% of any one young or old guy will chose a German car over an American car. I do not at all agree that the CTS Cadillac is a much better car than the Merc i.e. C63AMG. I'm a BMW fan but i will stand for German cars even though i'm not German. I'm South African. We do have a couple of American brands here too and trust me when i say that it's not a coincedence that even Hollywood has accepted that German and Italian cars bar the Brit Aston Martin/Rolls (class act) are the best cars to use in their movies. They also use them in their daily lives.

Take the Bently continental coupe and compare it to ...what ever American car - a cadillac maybe (score 6 - 0); Audi RS8 vs the Viper (score 6 - 20 i favour of RS8), The list is endless and the result will favour the German cars. Ask your self why the rich American always procures either an Italian car or a german super car or luxury car? the answer is simple and we all know it.Trust me when i say that anywhere else in the world including your country, 8 out of every 10 people will rather take a German car over an American car, more or less the same that we credit the French in the Clothing industry.

PEOPLE! Embrace others' opinions and don't hate them for it (ie. don't delete posts and don't get offended!).

I like the new styling. It brings it into line with the rest of the models and maintains the Mercedes look.

Pity about the '03-07 US Accord greenhouse. But then the current C-Class has the greenhouse of a '97-00 Civic, so it's staying in theme...

And why does MB keep putting the rear door handle in the middle of the door? It not only looks silly, but you can hardly open the rear door on a new C-Class without hitting yourself in the arm with the door. Is there some reason they can't engineer the handle to be nearer the edge of the door where it belongs? Goofy.

Now if only they can make a 4 door CLK (E-Coupe) based off the new E platform rather than the C platform. That would look exciting. Oops, I forgot that's the CLS, when is an all-new version of that coming out?
