No, it’s not a Wild West special-edition Hummer. This H3 with authentic wagon wheels installed in place of its 32-inch offroading tires is a work of art by Matthew Harrison. Entitled, “Hummer,” the H3 is on display courtesy of the Limoncello gallery in East London. It will be displayed at the Zoo Art Fair (Oct. 17-20) on Old Burlington Road, opposite the Royal Academy.
Described as a “mixture of art, engineering and motoring,” the H3 has been refitted with wooden wagon wheels, as seen in the photos. There was no comment as to how the wheels affect the H3’s off-road ability or cornering performance.

Parking wardens take note – it’s not a car, it’s art…
Artist Matthew Harrison today unveils his latest project entitled ‘Hummer’ at the fifth Zoo Art Fair (17-20 October) - a HUMMER H3 complete with wooden wagon wheels, the iconic installation will be parked on Old Burlington Road, opposite the Royal Academy of Arts for the duration of the fair.
Harrison is exhibiting on behalf of East London gallery, Limoncello, one of 57 under six year old galleries, project spaces, artists’ collectives, curatorial groups and publications showcasing works from some of the most exciting art talent in the world.
Harrison has combined the legendary off-road vehicle with ‘Wild West’ wooden wheels to create a sculpture that is a mixture of art, engineering and motoring. For Harrison, the crux of the ‘Hummer’ is formed by both its ‘being’ and its afterlife.
Corin Richards from HUMMER comments:
“Similar to HUMMER, this sculpture really is like no other. As well as being built for action, the H3 certainly has a unique, iconic style. We were thrilled to be approached by Matthew and glad to be supporting his work at the Zoo Art Fair.”

HUMMER H3
With permanent full-time four-wheel drive, a two-ratio transfer gearbox, traction control and HUMMER’s patented StabiliTrack Stability Enhancement System on all models, the H3 is a sure-footed choice for those seeking a vehicle that is just as much about action as it is about expressing the HUMMER brand’s iconic style. Indeed, the H3 is one of the most capable off-road vehicles on the market today.
Three trim levels are available – the SE, Adventure and Luxury. All come with a comprehensive standard equipment list including air conditioning, electric windows, remote central locking, a six-speaker stereo system, cruise control and an electrochromatic rear-view mirror with eight-point compass and temperature display.
Adventure models add heated power-adjustable seats, a leather appointed interior, an off-road suspension package, full-locking central rear differential, a chrome appearance package and a 7-speaker Monsoon sound system, making it perfect for those who want to take their HUMMER a little further off the beaten track.
For those who want a more cosseting HUMMER, the Luxury model comes with leather appointed interior, eight-way power adjustable heated seats, 16x7.5in chrome wheels, chrome side steps, hood louvre and roof bars and a 7-speaker Monsoon sound system. A comprehensive range of options is available for all models.
Initially, all H3s will be offered with HUMMER’s unique five-cylinder inline 3.7-litre VORTEC petrol engine. The 245ps @4600rpm unit was designed specifically for the H3 and offers an impressive 328Nm of torque, giving the car excellent flexibility in even the most challenging of conditions. Two transmissions are on offer – a five speed manual or a four-speed GM Hydra-Matic auto. BioEthanol FlexPower and Diesel H3s are planned for introduction in the next three years.
