Mazda revealed today at the Australian International Motor Show first images of the all-new Mazda3 (known as Mazda Axela in Japan). Fully redesigned for the first time in 5 years, the Mazda3 will make its public debut in the sheet metal at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 19, 2008.
Making up one-third of all Mazda sales totaling 1.8 million units worldwide since 2003, the Mazda3 is a pillar in Mazda's product plan. Therefore, it's no surprise that the new Mazda3 has nicely adopted the same design language from its well received Mazda6 sibling which debuted in Frankfurt last year. Despite the overall design similarities, the Mazda3 differentiates itself with a more aggressive front and rear bumper design.
The new Mazda3 sedan will be presented in North American specification with 2.0- and 2.5-liter engines in Los Angeles. Mazda vaguely hints that the five-door hatchback version will be revealed soon thereafter.
