Mazda revealed today at the Australian International Motor Show first images of the all-new Mazda3 (known as Mazda Axela in Japan). Fully redesigned for the first time in 5 years, the Mazda3 will make its public debut in the sheet metal at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 19, 2008.

Making up one-third of all Mazda sales totaling 1.8 million units worldwide since 2003, the Mazda3 is a pillar in Mazda's product plan. Therefore, it's no surprise that the new Mazda3 has nicely adopted the same design language from its well received Mazda6 sibling which debuted in Frankfurt last year. Despite the overall design similarities, the Mazda3 differentiates itself with a more aggressive front and rear bumper design.

The new Mazda3 sedan will be presented in North American specification with 2.0- and 2.5-liter engines in Los Angeles. Mazda vaguely hints that the five-door hatchback version will be revealed soon thereafter.

Love it! Not usually a fan of small hatches which have a boot bolted on and sold as saloons but Mazda certainly pull it off better than anyone else. Cannot wait to see the hatch, especially in MPS form.

its looks great. mind you they have chosen some beautiful angles for the photos. but it'll be a looker for sure. nice to see "elements" of mazdas concept cars filtering through here and there. good work. renders other japanese 4 door saloons in the market plaing rubbish. are you reading this Nissan Sentra?!!!!

Yes, it is based on the same platform as the current 3 (it is really just a re-skin, same as new Golf). The platform is shared with the euro Focus and Volvo C30/S40.

Holy shh.... this looks pretty good for a Mazda 3. More like a RX8 for a civilized family!

I Love it! I think the Mazda3 has the best sporty sedan in their segment. However, Just like the Mazda6 I feel that this is a teaser of what we will not get here in the states. the tailights will be different and the front will be changed also just like the euro-spec mazda6 was when they brought it to the U.S.

it looks good but it is abit of a shame that it looks like the offspring of a mazda 6 and 3

This car kicks ass!!! I am stoked even more than when the current gen came to market. So cool, who would ever dare drive a Corolla or Sentra. This is THE best look small sedan IMO. Peace!

The front is a fantastic piece of work, but I'm not so sure about the rear end. It looks too much like the Mazda 6 rear.
