Volkswagen Scirocco Gets More Engines in the UK
Volkswagen Scirocco

Pricing starts at 18,790£

When introducing a new sports car, virtually every automotive company has a similar game plan. Build up the hype by introducing a great looking mid-level performance model, follow up with an entry level destined to be the sales leader, and after a few years introduce an all out performance model to keep up consumer interest. So it comes as little surprise that Volkswagen has announced a new entry level Scirocco for the UK, right on the heels of the recently launched Scirocco GT.

Powering the entry level model is a 1.4L TSI engine with 160 PS, which enables it to run from 0-62 mph in 8 seconds and return 42.8 mpg. Newly available on both the Scirocco and Scirocco GT is a 2.0L TDI engine which produces 140 PS and allows them to reach 62 mph in 9.3 seconds.  Fuel economy in the combined cycle for the TDI is 55.4 mpg with a six speed manual and 51.4 mpg when equipped with DSG.

The new entry level Scirocco still comes with a decent amount of standard equipment including a six disc CD changer, air conditioning, 17” alloy wheels, and adaptive chassis control. Prices start at 18,790£ for the 1.4L TSI and climb to 21,770£ for the Scirocco GT with the 2.0L TDI and DSG, a full pricing breakdown can be seen in the press release below.

SCIROCCO NOW AVAILABLE WITH NEW ENGINES AND ENTRY-LEVEL TRIM

Volkswagen has announced a new entry-level specification and two additional engines for the Scirocco coupé, which are now available for ordering from Volkswagen Retailers. Prices for the entry-level model, fitted with a 1.4-litre TSI 160 PS engine, start at £18,790 RRP on the road, opening the possibility of Scirocco ownership to a wider audience.

At launch in September, the Scirocco was only available in range-topping GT trim. The new engines are now available in base trim which still benefits from a comprehensive list of standard equipment including a six-CD autochanger, rain and dusk sensor, multifunction computer, air conditioning and exclusive 17-inch ‘Donington’ alloy wheels. Safety features also, of course, remain a priority, with ABS, ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme) and six airbags all standard.

The 1.4-litre TSI 160 PS engine accelerates the Scirocco from 0 to 62 mph in just 8.0 seconds while returning 42.8 mpg (combined) and emitting 154 g/km of CO2. In addition, the new entry-level and GT models are now available with Volkswagen’s popular 2.0-litre TDI 140 PS common rail diesel engine linked to either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic DSG gearbox. Both manual and DSG versions reach 62 mph in 9.3 seconds while achieving a combined figure of 55.4 mpg (51.4 for DSG) and 134 g/km of CO2 (145 for DSG).

The Scirocco is the most technically advanced production coupé that Volkswagen has produced and all models also benefit from Adaptive Chassis Control (ACC) which operates via a set of four electrically adjustable dampers to alter the car’s suspension, steering and throttle response set-up, and allows the driver to choose the most appropriate setting for the journey.
