When Infiniti first announced the G37 Convertible for North America, overall reception was quite strong. Surprisingly, only a single image was released, and clearly it was not enough for Infiniti enthusiasts. So thankfully, along with the announcement that the G37 Convertible will be available in Europe summer 2009, Infiniti has issued a second image, this time a rear view.

Although no details have been released yet, we expect the G37 Convertible to be spec'd closely to the North American version with a three-piece automatic retracting hardtop, standard six-speed manual transmission or optional seven-speed automatic with paddle shift as well as the same 3.7-liter V6 engine, although with 15 hp less than the North American car with 330 hp.

No, the G37 Convertible will not be making its debut in Paris tomorrow, but instead as originally announced, we will have to wait until next month when more images and full details are revealed in Los Angeles.

INFINITI ANNOUNCES NEXT NEW MODEL FOR EUROPE

  • Infiniti confirms introduction of the G37 Convertible in Europe
  • Second image released showing rear styling

Infiniti may have only just arrived in Europe but the brand is wasting no time in announcing the next addition to its range of performance cars, the G37 Convertible, which will go on sale from summer 2009. The news coincides with the release of a second image of the car that shows how Infiniti’s designers have preserved the sensuous lines of the G37 Coupé … despite the need to accommodate the Convertible’s three-piece automatic retracting hardtop.

The G37 Convertible promises beautiful styling and the dynamic performance worthy of an Infiniti G. It will be powered by the same 320PS 3.7-litre V6 engine, featuring Infiniti’s Variable Valve Event and Lift technology, as its sister Sedan and Coupé models. There will be a choice of standard six-speed manual transmission or optional seven-speed automatic with paddle shift.

More pictures and details of the G37 Convertible will be issued at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show in November during the car’s global debut.

Wow, that looks pretty cool actually. Still not a 350z.

Yay, this and the Lexus IS CC, should give some competition to the germans.

I really like the way this car looks, but i think it needs a newer design than the previous one.

That's not the previous one, it's the current G37. Nissan was smart to evolve a successful and clean design (though I miss the stacked headlamps of the first generation G). It keeps it more timeless. Lexus, you can retire the bathtub SC430 now please...
