The 911 is a legend , great performance car, but the last thing I would say in the showroom is to ask about the Targa version. The Porsche 911 is about driving , performance, sound, not for watching the stars or clouds. Pointless version, for boring people which choose it probably with the automatic gearbox. I read that the new automatic is quite good, but never than less, 6-Speed manual is fun. Personally I have driven 997 Carrera S and it's brilliant. 355bhp is enough, power and performance is awesome.

i think i agree with everything u said, but one thing u should bear in mind: mostly old people can afford the 911 car and many buy it only because of the prestige it offers. they appreciate everything comfortable within this car.

What do you mean old people? I know people who have 911's and they are at their 30's and 40's-) Besides 911 is not quite comfortable car in it's price class. For that kind of money if you want to buy a comfortable car you should choose a BMW 6-series, Mercedes CL 500 or Jaguar XK.

i mean that most Porsche customers are 50+. Of course there are some who are younger but the majority is old and they enjoy such features. 90% of porsches won`t be driven on a track, so even a 911 targa makes sense in some way.

I totally agree with you. Not only is it the coolest 911, it's also the most practical one.

Makes more sense than a convertible, as you don't lose the rigidity, and it retains some focus at least, as well as an airy cabin.

The reasons for owning a premium car aren't that simple. You think cool while I'm justifying the outlay and the running costs. You dream about weekend track days and I think about the cost of those 295/19 ZR30 tires and how often. What makes us all want a Porsche is like looking at her (or him) and knowing that "they're the one". Watch a Porsche video and it's all about passion and longing. There's a reason Porsche is so profitable - they know better than most which of our buttons to press, and they cater to people who don't need to worry about the cost of those tires! Yup, it proably is the most practical model, and through these old eyes, it's very cool! A word of warning, though, unless you are willing to part with the money, don't go out and test drive one - going back to your daily driver just won't feel the same.
