BMW has released a 40 second teaser video for the Concept X1 compact sport activity vehicle (SAV), which makes its debut later this week in Paris. Produced with elements of skateboarding, graffiti and hip hop beats, BMW is clearly trying to reach young urban individuals. No longer considered rebellious or anti-establishment, these sub-cultures have a firm hold on mainstream and pop-culture around the world. Sure, these types of trendy marketing tactics always make us cringe, but BMW seems to have identified the once wielding skateboarders from the turn of the millennium as potential clients. With consideration to their new position in the workforce and potential disposable income, we tend to see BMW's angle.

'just have enough of BMW's "X"-es. how about making some really nice cars, sporty, good looking ??... like the ones you use to make !
i think they should rather take care of the X3 now, because it really requires a replacement.
Let´s wait and see... nice rims and the color looks interesting...I think the idea it´s not as bad as it sounds, if you want a SAV, SUV, etc.. and you live in a big city lack of space, maybe this is a solution...
Ya right the skateboard crowd is going to be able to afford a BMW. Young and hip does not equal "can afford to buy your product". but nice commercial.
haha i was going to say the same thing, this is going to be one pointless, overpriced SUV. id rather buy a used x5. the only potential clients this sh#t will have will be 16 year old rich girls, i thought the x3 had already taked that part.
Conceptual teasing is not like teasing at all. Modern X X X L...OL. Looks like a Citroen GT concept.
Germany is way behind the game on the SUV thing... if these vehicles were introduced a decade ago they would have been very profitable and wouldn't have to face the whole large vehicle market crash.
" Germany is way behind the game on the SUV thing ". Yes, but they have also problems to make hybrid cars.
I wanna small nimble offroading car. Would be way more fun then a large offroading truck that risks flipping over. That being said, the Rav4 and kia sorento are not cars, and like you said are pretty feminine.
WOW! That was the most ridiculous ad I have seen in a while. Especially from BMW; WTF were they thinking? The music is dated, circa 1999 Supreme Beings of Liesure, the lighting and location were about as Xciting and Cool as mid 90's trip hop video. Plus, the tag artists work with the digital overlay of true type font was cheesy. I agree with LGgeek, the audience they are after is not usually in the market for an SAV/SUV with a Bimmer badge. Overall this looks like a freshman or sophmore year students work from Art Center. Nothing to pass on to my friends.
if this is going to be more expensive than the 1 series (and i think it prob will be) they wont sell that many to younger people, becuase here in Australia the 1 series starts at $40 000 so imgaine what they will charge for the x1... and it isnt like you are getting alot for your money
We get it, cars cost a lot in Australia, deal with it or move elsewhere.
joe_limon, you obviously don't understand aussie culture. babymilo? i'd hazard a guess at maybe between the 3 series and the 1 series, so maybe $45k as a starting price?
Just what the heck purpose does an "Urban SUV" made to carry a skateboard serve? Wouldn't a stylish (oops, this leaves Bangle out) coupe carry a board or two, drive better and be more efficient?
ah, a bangle-basher. nice to know you came up with your own opinion, instead of using a stereotypical view. oh wait...
This is soo tacky! Yes they're trying to reach out to a youunger audience but this is just rediculous!
i think bmw might actually be a lot cleverer than they look... the skater crowd aren't going to be able to afford this in mass numbers, but what about all the yuppies that wanted to be skaters when they were younger? if that's the angle they're going for, then it's a pretty smart move...
