That's what I was thinking, nice touch with those Audi taillights, someone might actually mistake this car for something with a bit more class.

very true, audi made some mean taillights that are worthy of emulation.

The American perception of a good handling car is far differrent everywhere else in the world.
And thank god it's not being sold in my country as well.
The Lexus behemoths are bad enough.

when are they going to change the design of this second generation mdx? if i am not mistaken, it should be around every five of six years right? i just don't dig it.. looks a little too much like a mini-van for my taste. the "ugly" acura grille of this generations has gotta go too, it reminds me too much of saturn's vehicles (pretty sure that's where they stole the idea from).
i have always like acura's styles and designs, but they are losing me with these so call new design. are they suppose to be sophisticated or something? cars are like girls too... you can rave all you want, but if it the looks don't intrigue you... you might as well forget it. it doesn't matter what anyone says... looks comes first, the heart second (interior designs, engine, gadgets, etc. ), and lastly reputations (performance history). that's my two cents.

It is important to note that development of these production cars start 5 years in advance, meaning the current MDX was designed in 2002. For one to say that Acura copied Audi, Audi copied Acura is rather ignorant. Believe it or not, many of the designers at Acura and Audi graduated from the same design school, Art Center in Pasadena, California (hence similar design principles that are more radical/futuristic than other brands). Also, Acura/Honda has a design center in Pasadena, and Audi too has a design center here in southern California. It is clear that Audi and Acura's target audience are people with tastes that reflect/appreciate modern design/architecture.
Many critics and car buffs tend to believe that automobile designs (like that of Audi) are of European origin. This is not the case, as Audi designers (like Acura) comprise of many ethnic backgrounds.
In addition, the fact that Acura vehicle designs resemble Saturn vehicles may not be a coincidence. Acura did not "copy" Saturn (they don't need to) - The plenum grille design is something that has carried over from Japanese Domestic Models of the past like that of the Stream. These vehicles are rarely known to Europeans and Americans but are best-sellers in the Asia market.
Lastly, to categorize American's perception of good handling as being different from "the rest of the world" would be rather short-sighted. American Cars are indeed large, but so are the roads (wide, 4-5 lane highways), and not to forget, how big the country itself is(in both area and population density, and the size of their bellies!). The United States is also the most strict when it comes to safety requirements as compared to Europe and Asia, despite not having super-high-speed freeways like that of the Autobahn. In any case, the United States, compromising of perhaps the most diverse mix of ethnic backgrounds (particularly in Los Angeles)is the largest market to supply. What matters most to Americans is not whether who copied who, but moreover, the availability of choice. Where would Honda, Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, VW be if Americans only bought the domestic makes?
