Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback & Sportback Ralliart Hit the Web Ahead of Paris Unveiling
Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback

Earlier this year Mitsubishi announced the Lancer and Lancer Ralliart would make its way to the Paris Motor Show in a Sportback guise. A few initial images were released revealing the simple details of the models but for those of you who want a little extra from the Lancer, a whole bunch of pictures have surfaced less than a week before their unveiling.

The regular Sportback model draws its power from a choice of three engines: a 109 hp 1.5 liter, 143hp gasoline engine, a 1.8 liter gasoline engine or a 140hp 2.0 liter diesel option. The Lancer Ralliart which fits in nicely between the regular Lancer and top-spec Lancer Evolution has a new turbocharged 2.0 liter, 4 cylinder DOHC MIVEC engine producing 240 hp (177 kW) and 343 Nm of torque. All engine options will come with a 5 speed manual transmission as standard, however consumers will have the opportunity to upgrade their models with theTwin Clutch SST (Sport Shift Transmission).

More details are likely to be released next week, but in the meantime don't forget to head over to the Lancer Sportback and Lancer Sportback Ralliart photo albums

personally i dont mind the look of the overall car, but i think that the tail lights could do with some tweaking...

I think it looks very good. A lot better than the Subaru Impreza! I'd say this is one of the best looking hatchbacks out there when it hits the stores.

I agree the rear lights need some work, why is there so many of them, scattered all over the rear end? The bumper looks ridiculous. Is it really to much to incorporate the fog light and reflecters into the main units?

I have no problem with the look of the rear end including the tail lights ... but ... the nose would be way better left in the form of a split grille from the sedan rather than blatantly copy the single framed grille (turned on it's head) from Audi.

The rear overhang is too long for a hatchback. A few inches more and this would've been a station wagon.

Mitsubishi's 'boring' cars have improved greatly! Much better than that Subaru Impreza. Nice job Mitsu!

This looks good, but the mighty mazdaspeed3 still is the best looking hatchback...

Actually, no, this hatchback does not look good, and no it doesn't not look better than the Subaru. At least the Subaru looks like it was designed to be a hatchback. This looks like the hatch was slapped on as an afterthought. Too bad, cause the sedan looks great!

What a shame the Ralliart model doesn't have Supersport mode on its TC-SST tranny.

Audi wanna-be since the first prototype showed. Where's originality?

That big foglight in the back bumper looks a bit like an afterthought surely they could have found somewhere better.

I like how ppl keep saying that this car is just ripping off the audi's. Mitsubishi came out with a lancer concept car with this grill in 2005, the same year that the first Audis were adorned their new smiles, concept cars take a while to develop. So I highly doubt they stole the design, it's probably more comparable to the newton vs. leibniz argument.

Interesting timeline ... but totally wrong as I have a photo I took of the Audi Le Mans (R8 concept car) at the Melbourne Motor Show in March 2004 and that was at least a year after it was first displayed ... ergo Audi were using the single frame grille in 2003 (or even 2002) ... THREE years before the Lancer concept emerged.

hmm your right, that was a 2003 concept car. My timeline wasn't totally wrong, the years I gave were correct, I just didn't think of the r8 concept car. K you got me, Mitsubishi must have totally ripped off Audi cause every one knows audi is the most epic company on earth... *eyes roll* oh well, tis only the lancer, pos looking car imo in the first place, it's just a box with a super aggressive front bumper.
