I agree, they should have used the 2.0 turbocharged engine. But, the interior is so sexy.

It is kinda slow as it is probably heavy! The increase in weight over the years has strayed the GTI farther and farther from the initial ideal for which it's supposed to stand. Too bad, it is now an overpriced, overweight pig :( And that interior, no matter how well made it is looks more and more like a the typical VW van interior, a van interior stiched with red leather, that is...

So, is it a concept or that's the real deal? If it makes it to production looking like that... Hmmm... that's my next car! :)

Meh on the 2 door. Lets see a 4 door GTI in Union Grey!! This 6th gen kills the 5th, and hopefully will help us all forget that bland, Corolla-ripoff, terd.

It looks good... But the technology in VWs, ie Nav systems, keyless/proximity entry etc have not been up to speed, in comparison to a few other auto makers. I would like to see a much wider range of technology in these cars. Anyways..... Back to the GTI.... It looks nice. 220-240 hp would be nice though and I see that they are trying to get a way from that 130 MPH speed limitation. That's always a plus.

Yes!! Thank god I took a chance and bought the Mk5 GTI before it was replaced by this turd. The GTI just went from iconic to looking like a 10 year old Honda Civic. I was going to wait for this, but after seeing that VW foolishly dumped the big monoframe grille from the IROC in favor of a lame horizontal stripe on the Scirocco, I feared the GTI would share the same fate, and boy did it ever. This "new face of Volkswagen" (black horizontal stripe between the headlights) is the biggest fiasco in the history of the company. This is hardly a "new" face, it's the old 1991 face of VW. The new taillights look lame as well, and the new seats look like my granddad's pajamas. They even scrapped the trademark GTI instrumentation dials in favor of the standard dials, and the brushed aluminum trim has been replaced by cheapo black like in the Mk5 GT. Thank you VW, this made my day!

Oh no, no, noooo... what have they done? They've gone back to having very little difference between the basic Golf and the GTI, like in the old days. The MK-V could be spotted from miles away. Also, this new tartan material looks really ugly and cheap, the previous one was much more classy (if tartan can ever be classy). NOw it looks tacky like the Polo GTI. I like that the body is now in one color, without those black spoilers, but everything else is a massive step backwards. Hopefully it will be very short lived and the MK-VII will bury this misfire forever.

Not a bad looking car. It certainly isn't ugly! But I have to see it in the metal first

I think this just looks great. it's better thatn the Golf 5 GTI in the sense that it really looks different from the standard model (on the 5's back, the only thing that showed you it was a GTI was actually the "GTI" badge), they've really made some changes. I still hate the rear lights and I still cry out loud that they look like on an ugly little Touareg, but the rest is just sporty and crunchy. if it drives at least as good as the previous GTI I'm really considering getting one.

Mk6 Golf is just a Mk5 remixed. However, seats look sick, grille's got Scirroco attitude and GTi has more oomph factor. More evo rather than revo overall design. My sky blue Mk4 GTi design is a timeless classic, especially the dashboard/central console.

Having seen the Mk6 interior, it's much better than Mk5, but the tartan seats in a Mk6 GTi is a backward step to Mk5 GTi which was welcome and looked cool after a 30yr hiatus to the original. Now, it's garish in an otherwise Audi-slick interior. Let's hope driving dynamics of Mk5 remains entertaining against better and sharper competition. Mr Clarkson will be the judge of that!
