Won't be called Urus

This mystery Lamborghini model that is set to be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show has been an interesting affair. It all started with the release of an initial teaser image showing the rear of the vehicle focusing on the huge twin exhausts, a second soon followed showing a small shot of the side profile of the model. Now a third teaser shot has been unearthed by a Lamborghini enthusiast forum showing a third shot of the model, this time it is of the rear tailight. You will notice the diagonal line going through the lights, this is where the boot lid joins to the rear body, a fact that confirms the engine must be housed at the front of the vehicle.

WCF insiders have already had the opportunity to see full press images of the concept, we can definitely confirm it is a four door coupe to compete with models such as the Aston Martin Rapide. However, our earlier reports that it will be called “Urus” have proven to be false, we are unable to tell you the full name yet, but we can assure you, there isn't long to wait before Lamborghini launch the first full press images.

It's a Lambo, of course it'll look good. WCF probably has signed an NDA with Lambo so they can't tell much right now, not before the car is officially unveiled.

I dont hear no comments on the audi-influenced rear lights! If the first teaser was the third i was going to recognize the back of a 2010 a8 with a little bit of a pinch! HAHHAHAHA audi has the best designers in the world! And last I remember AUDI owns LAMBORGHINI!

These rear lights seems a little too soft for a Lambo.... I like those lights with sharp edges on Gallardo and LP640.

You're weird. Your statement holds as much water as me saying that the Audi TT is just a glorified vw golf. If you analyze it deep enough, it is still just a heavily modified golf platform, but no one in there right minds would think that the Audi TT is a golf because of that. Gain some perspective, I could burn all of the previous generation benzes by your logic and say they are all have Chrysler influences. But that would be equally ignorant. Why don't you try judging a car for what it is, and not what you would have liked to see in it.

Joe_Limon
September 25, 2008 2:46 AM
also, the R8 is off the Gallardo platform... think of it, which came first?

Airbag
September 25, 2008 3:45 AM
While there some is component sharing between the Gallardo and the R8, the R8's platform is bespoke.

Joe_Limon
September 25, 2008 7:50 AM
don't think so... "The Audi R8 sports car, launched in early 2007, is based on the Gallardo platform, and uses a 4.2 litre V8 in place of the Gallardo's V10 to avoid competing directly with the Gallardo." Straight from wikipedia.

catchmyshadow
September 25, 2008 10:56 AM
that wikipedia statement is rubbish. the audi R8 V10 is comin soon as well as a gallardo V8 on the other hand. also, the gallardi is the more exclusive car and it attracts other groups of customers.

the rear looks as though it could be a new alfa.

Glad they arent using the urus tag it sounds very close to aurus which was that very sexy Audi concept car of the early nineties. im looking forward to seeing the full pics though.

September 25, 2008 2:59 AM
Ha ha, looks like an R8?

No but the taillight looks like a cross between that of an Alfa 159 and an Audi A5. It's definitely front engined and definitely has a 3-box structure judging by the bootline.

Now think of Ferrari's front-engined 3-boxes - the 599 GTB Fiorano, the 612 Scaglietti and now the California. Which of those sells the most - that's what this will compete with. I'm guessing it's the 612, but I reckon the Cali will be more popular once on sale. Lamborghini folding hardtop anyone? Four doors is too crazy, even for Lambo.

i dont care which came first! who made led night lights first! all of the fine technology is being invented by audi designers! -space frame -torque vectoring -led lights all-round -piezo-injectors -flat bottom steering wheel

M!
September 25, 2008 6:35 AM
further to what machida wrote below, how did Audi invented 'flat bottom steering wheel"? they were already used in racing many years ago. some 18 years ago XRJ 15 already use them, and possibly a few more cars had them. where was Audi engineers in inventing these fine technology???

catchmyshadow
September 25, 2008 10:59 AM
he speaks about invention in street legal cars, of course many inventions have started in racecars.

MB had a spaceframe in 1954. Dumb ol' Cadillac had LED taillamps (two Ls, and "rear taillamps" is redundant, like "foot pedals," guys) in the mid-90s, Lexus had LED headlamps two years ago in the LS Hybrid. Piezo injectors were developed by Bosch and Mitsubishi had gasoline direct injection in the 1990s. Audi is doing nice stuff but they hardly invent "all the fine technology."

Aren't these lamps just a spin on the Reventon and now Murcielago taillamps, by the way?

Can't wait to see the rest of the car...modern Espada, anyone? Lambo is about the only product of the VW Group whose styling does not betray its parentage. (Even the Bentley looks like a giant modern interpretation of the Karmann Ghia, with its rear fender bulge and googly-eyed New Beetle headlamps.)

kimbo
September 25, 2008 12:12 PM
first LED day headlamps were on AUDI so stop talking BS!

machida
September 25, 2008 9:01 PM
DRLs are hardly technologically challenging. They do not need to cast a beam pattern or do much beyond showing up. It's hardly a major technological advance beyond the invention of the LED itself, though it is a cool styling feature.

They're not "day headlamps" in other words. Headlamps primarily illuminate the road ahead and help the driver see, not much use in daylight in that respect. They are running lamps, whose function is to help the car be seen by other drivers.

The LEDs work well in that respect, especially given their low energy consumption and long life. But still, just a nice styling feature on the same function. Like BMW's angel eyes. Like 'em, but hardly enough to hang Audi's overall technological hat on.

Lexus LS600h had LED headlamps (not DRLs) first in production.

Can not wait for the veiling of the car. I don't think it'lll be the best looking lambo, but I just hope they don't ruin their name like Porshe will be doing with coming out with that 4 door Porsche. Thats one porsche I can not stand the sight of. At least the Aston Martin can pull off a 4 door.

I just hope this will not be a dissapointment.

Porsche has no lines, all curves...thats y it doesnt work with the Pana whatever....Lambo has curves and lines, im sure it will look good! Ugly lambo..theres so such thing

Audi was the first to have daylight led headlamps and night leds too. If lexus had leds in some concept or a prototype doesnt matter cause audi was the first with them on the streets with real customers. There is a slight differens in saying you can do something and actually put it on the market.

catchmyshadow
September 25, 2008 11:05 AM
whatever people say, without Audi and VW Lambo wouldn`t exist anymore and that is what counts. Of course they share some components and lambo wouldn`t be that reliable without audi, but both have limited that exchange to a level of 30%, so both brands still have their own identities.

Any one who is commenting that this looks like an audi is just ridiculous. There are line characteristics of lamborghini are plastered all of this. Yes audi's design is good but there design teams are very different (even though they are the same company). So stop commenting that it looks like an audi, just waste wall space

This has the potential to be good. The front is well sloped and the italian flag detail on the side makes me smile...can't wait, expect to see some crazy hard angles on this car
