Dodge Charger to get New Generation 368hp 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine for 2009

For 2009 the Dodge Charger gets a few minor updates, not enough top condier it a facelift, so we will settle for new model year updates. The highlight of these changes is the new-generation 5.7-liter HEMI V8 which will be available for the RWD and AWD R/T models. The new power unit boasts better fuel economy whilst simultaneously increasing its clout, power output gets a small boost of 28hp taking the total figure to 368hp whilst torque rises to 395 lb-ft from 390 lb-ft.

Minor modifications to the exterior see redesigned tail lights which would be barely noteable to the untrained eye as well as a modification to the exterior color options. The interior benefits from some upgraded accents and LED illuminated lights.

For the range topping SRT8, Chrysler will also introduce two special editions: the limited edition Super Bee “buzz model” in Hemi Orange with serialized dash plaque and Limited edition Brilliant Black Edition.

what a disgrace... seriously... why do they even call this the charger??? the charger is a two door ICON in american just like the challenger was. they made the challenger juuuust right, but this in design terms AND name wise is just stupid... this is a whole new car, not the charger.. pathetic... i mean what kind of company would do that to an icon. sad really

Its a Charger because while its 4-doors, the R/T model can still hit the Quarter in at least 13.8seconds which is very good for a full-size family sedan. Also because of D.O.D. System you can save some gas and have the gas guzzler tax waived. I love the car and this is coming from a guy who sees the Original Charger as one of the greatest cars of all time(ONE OF THEM, CALM DOWN).

no one ever said the original was a 4-door besides they already messed up the name with the Omni 024 rip off charger in the 80s Economics!! Balance sheets sheer amount of sales which points to most people disagreeing!!!

No, no one ever did but the Original Charger was huge 2 door sedan with easy space for 5. This car although has 2 more doors serves the same functions and when you research it runs the same 1/4 mile. Its a charger through and through only this time with an even better chassis.

Its not sad bro, the R/T models are very mean looking cars, i like the car alot too. Its a 40000lb car that does less than 14s in the quarter mile and it also uses the old E-Class chassis with an American V8..Haters aside, How can you lose here ? Especially in the used car market, this car is dirt cheap and im not talking quality.

why do all american cars have 9.33 v8's and have only 300 hp and a range rover has a 4.2 engine and has 400 hp.

Because american engines while being large make power easier ensuring that they can last 400K miles and longer if you look after them.

I agree. What the Yanks can do with a 6-litre the Euro/Korean/Japs can do with a 5-litre, you can knock a litre off every American engine comfortably. If you look at the PSA-Renault co-developed 2946cc V6 which kicks out between 210 and 215 bhp and compare it to a 4011cc ford engine with 200-210bhp you can see why oil reserves are dwindling. If you drive a Hummer, you're talking gallons per mile not vice versa

Yea, Dom and yet you fail to understand that While Euro/Japs make more HP per Liter it doesn't matter so much as American cars have their own edge primarily more torque. Less stress on the engine which helps the engines last longer, much longer. Also comforting to know is that you could theoretically drive an American motor longer, think LONG distance trip or endurance race and not have to worry about things breaking as much.

xanavi23 H3 5.3 V8 - 81.08nm per litre. Jeep 5.7 V8 - 88.43 nm per litre, Escalade - 91.69 nm/l, H2 - 93.15 nm/l - VW/AUDI 4.2 V8 FSI - 105.69nm/l. Cayenne 4.8 V8 has 104.04 nm/l, Merc 6.2 V8 - 101.48nm/l

Look at the Z06 - if the 6208cc AMG engine was 7011 cc it would have 593bhp and 711nm.

Do you have a comeback? Big lazy V8 is dead. Long live Euro/Jap/Korean V8s.

But the really annoying thing is that you lot CAN produce a Ford 3.5 V6 with 265bhp so why can't you produce a Ford 5.4 V8 with 409bhp?

there is no reason behind it.

Not really because the engineering in the 6.3L Benz engine makes it much more expensive which reflects in the price of the car, furthermore, the CLK63 isn't as fast as a Z06 in any shape or form. So while the "Big Lazy V8" isn't dead, it also gets the job done, cheaper, more reliably and with alotta fun. Also the LS7 gets very good highway gas mileage because of its size and gearing so at the end of the day why would you want to spend more money engineering an engine when a simple tried and true engine like the LS7 works better all around ? Its cheaper, less moving parts so it won't risk breaking as easy as "tech" engines, and gets very good fuel economy. There is nothing lazy about the LS7...it works great as seen at the top of GT racing in the C6R, they kick(ed) the **** out of the 575GTCs and other europeans.

Is there some actual reason why you think a bigger displacement is a worse engine? You just gave a bunch of specs but nothing that says anything is better than the other. Here in American nobody has cared what the displacement because we don't get taxed on displacement like many European countries. Who gives a sh!t what the displacement is. I do know one thing a big V8 sounds a lot better than a small one. And yes it makes more torque because its bigger that's the point. I don't know what yours is

hoooo do you thinck your porche cayenne can pull a trailler of 6000 pound i'm not sure he have the low rpm torque to pull it like the 5.4L or the 6.4 diesel! If you thinck more hP are better study a little bit and your going to understand why it's not true. big vans have not a huge Hp but a lot of low rpm torque
