jaw-dropping? Not really - a little bit interesting maybe... and why does it remind me of the Fiat Bravo?

Although I have never been a Renault fan, I like this one, it also seems a little longer and larger than the existing model. I wonder if they plan to have a sedan version of this. The only remark that can be made is for the dashboard which is not so fancy.

"the dashboard which is not so fancy. " errr should look again mate....have u had a look at Bmw's 1 series and Golf and Citroen and Peugeot...they are not from the same planet how behind they are....
I am not jaw dropping.....but it is growing on me...another thing is that the Megane II definitely brought some REAL refreshment from the ordinary pity Renault didn't keep that TRADEMARK rear like Audi has its grille how BMW has Bangle Bullsh1t and so on....if this car had an evolved and tightened rear of the old megane I think it would be a total winner....not its kinda stuck neither here no there...I don't expect a GOLF buyer to even look at this car cause for him the kind of plain design is Golf. People for more evocative designs now might turn to Alfa's possibly Lancia....Perhaps Renault has plans to introduce the Alpine as they have the Laguna coupe for the emotional buyers....
Interior seems great but where is the great airoplane style hand brake? Where are the nicely designed folded head rests? Those are key things that I think have been lost here...

Yes, gorgonsola, totally agree.
My wife said that that coupe versin will be her next car, she like that car already. I wait for Alpine. If Renault keep his valuable sports car building traditions I would be very happy indeed if not of courese Laguna coupe will be an real option. However strangest part is that we both are not Renault fans. Renault just is an most intelligent option.

i dont like that rear end that is just drabe and boring and the tail lights are too big and bulky, the front end i just ugly and i dont like it how they have used a digital speedo they just annoy me, an analog and a small digital readout is ok but i dont like just digital

Look going to extremes is also a bit much Milo...
The speedo actually looks very good indeed without it looking like they tried too hard (Honda civic)
alessandro :) Me too ... I await alpine with much anticipation. I hope like the Laguna coupe that the alpine looks the part. I am sure they know internally they cant fiddle that car. its either dead on the ball or totally wrong... I have the Clio 197 right now and think to 2010 - 11 for a next car... right now Nothing really blows my mind well nothing since the Megane II I would say and few cars here and there in the past...
What I must add is that the 4 door front bumper actually looks nicer that the 3 dr with silver inner linings....they just look wrong and cheap Peugeot like.
Once again the lost sharpness of the concept to the production. Much like the Vel-Satis concept made perfect sense and then the production version came out..
This car makes all the sense in the world when u have a look at the video of the Megane coupe concept. Probably the best looking - attention to detail - concept car out there right now. How have they lost their way? it boggles my mind....

Yes gorgonzola. Their dispersal behaviour with own concepts scares me time-to time as well as makes angry to be square, however not as a Laguna owner but anyway I really hope find something from Renault for next. My wife is deserve newcar an she will have it but as you i will wait for a year at least or two. Let see..., Hi!

Nice, if the 5-door is shaping up like this, I can't wait for the 3-door or even Renualtsport version. Serious competion in the hatch market nowadays. =)

something off topic: WCF editors, can you please also mention the engine power figures in kW?

Some things from the current Megane removed I wish they've could've kept it...
The steep hatch window... could've kept the element, just tone it down a little. Inside, the aircraft-style handbrake is also gone, and the 2 scoop dashboard housing is also gone.
Also, the push-button start/stop is located in such an awkward place...
