Volkswagen Golf Mk6 Arrives in Iceland Ahead of Unveiling
Volkswagen Golf Mk6

What is the point of having a glitzy unveiling under the lights of Paris when the model has already hit the streets? A valid question that could be asked by many after a reader at Golfmk6 forum grabbed a few shots of 100 models of the 6th generation Volkswagen Golf that were spotted arriving in Iceland ahead of a planned press event towards the end of the month. Not that we're complaining, its great to see what the model looks like in the real world and our conclusion: Volkswagen have yet another winner.

Styling features on the new model shares strong characteristics with the new Sciricco and sees the Golf inherit a sportier presence to it. Pricing for the model will start at €16,500 (German market) which represents a premium of €200 over the current model and as usual for the Golf, the large array of engine options will be available again. Four gasoline engines will be available from launch starting with two normally aspirated engines making 59 kW / 80 PS, 75 kW / 102 PS. Then TSI in either supercharged and/or turbocharged form making 90 kW / 122 PS and 118 kW / 160 PS. These will be backed up with a choice of two 2.0 liter TDI engines making 81 kW / 110 PS and 103 kW / 140 PS.

Won't be made. An upgrated version of the GTI will be on offer (2.0L turbo). Same engine & mods as the Audi S3. You guys have no concept of modern-day engines as it relates to carbon emissions and the air you breath. Dynamite now comes in small packages. Sure you don't get the same engine noise, but I really couldn't care when bigger issues are at stake. VW shelved the R32 due to it failing EU5 emission levels. I'm very pleased.

WRONG! VW haven't shelved the R32. Not too long ago, they said the were gonna continue making it named the GTI-R or R32. Take your Eco-ass home. =/

Ah, how nice of you to insult me. Thank you. Unfortunately you whom label me 'eco-ass' etc and other such moronic names really miss the point. These emission levels are there for a reason. But I suppose a rationisation on you would be lost. Thank goodness we have some with brains running governments while you're at your desk or in your bedroom frothing over v8's. And I'm not wrong: the GTI-R will not be using a 3L engine and they are stopping production of it shortly. Guaranteed with a smaller engine. You're probably in the States, where you get a tax break for driving a hummer. In the UK and across Europe, you will pay much more in tax shortly for a larger motor. VW want to sell cars, and people want to save money on tax, so it's a win-win for those with some common sense.

Seek and ye shall find, 'tuner_mad', straight from Worldcarfans.com: 'Unfortunately, the R32 and its sonic V6 engine are being dropped due to EU emissions legislation. However, VW will, in spirit, bring it back via an all-wheel-drive R variant called GTI-R. It will be powered by the 265hp 2.0 TFSI found in the Audi S3.' ...Back at ya.

@VW: Please learn to design cars! Get that old fart Da Silva to whip his team of designers and come up with something more interesting... The Scirroco and Passat CC are proof that the potential is there! I don't care how good your car is, the design is clearly marketed towards people who have no taste in cars!!! The official pictures looked nice but the production version already looks as boring as the previous Golf, and the one before that, and so on... :( I'm going to give it some time until I see it on the road, but from what I see here, I won't probably spot it in traffic easily...

You both are right. Personally, I think that the BEST looking golf generation was the MK4; the one before 6 years I think. It was extremely attractive and strong looking think... Wish they make that design again.

They are in iceland for the global journalist test drive. They are not for retail purpose.

Of the Golf 5 only the headlights and the mirrors needed change, IMHO. The rear lights seem like a step back.

This car causes lauhgter. Not just dull but meticulously designed to be "nicht mehr als Das Auto". Rear lights are by the way better than on previuos two makes but body profile makes you scream. Just so empty it is this bodywork, hopless to try build up somthing personal for yourself. This car can damage owners inner personality.

Have to agree with you. Nicely put. One step forward, two steps back. Most people whom buy it aren't bothered though about the looks (as long as they don't feel it's horribly offensive, which it's not). More for residuals, reliability (not as bad as some), brand name etc.

it looks good, the camera angle makes it look a bit high, but in fact it isn`t. no doubt it will be a huge success, with R-line package it will look gorgeous

What did they exactly do to the car? Took the Touareg's taillights, Scirocco's grill and made a Golf out of it?
