First Official Images of Production Chevy Volt Leak Out

It's sad that it has taken GM so long to figure it out because they are actually starting to finally make decent cars again. The last few offerings have been pretty ok, i.e.; new Cadillac CTS and Chevy Malibu. As far as the new Volt, hopefully it is a GOOD car (regardless of GM) and is free from some of the quality/teething problems that have been huge blunders for GM in the past (the Olds diesel V8, Cadillac V4-6-8 engine, X-car brake locking problems, etc.)

It is sad that GM feels the need to bet the farm on this car. Maybe if they just stuck to building decent cars as they have been doing lately. GM is going to bet the farm on this car, they are going to spend MORE $$$$ marketing their cars (Transformers) than they will engineering their cars. Then they ask the government to lower the standards of car build so they can remain competitive. Which tells me ALREADY that the Volt sucks (why else would they ask the gov't to lower standards)

B O R I N G Every statement about the car is NOT how cool, new and groundbreaking it is, but how important it is to the companys survival. You clearly see how many GM VIPs had their hands on that model, it just reeks of compromise an every corner, no guts, no soul, no sales. Good night and good luck!

I agree w/ rcw - America needs this car regardless of who is making it, so I really hope it takes off. The American public refused to embrace the EV1, and look how long it took before manufacturers even looked at electric vehicles for our market again. Everyone who wants to support US manufacturing and/or get serious about the environment should be cheering for this one to succeed - we need it! (Though, I hope they release it in some cool, modern colors.)

So lets see: 1/ Usually the new generation of an older model is enough for design gremlins. 2/ Usually a completely NEW platform/model is very difficult to manage. Recalls and design flaws are higher in new platform models than restyled previous gen. 3/ So GM decides to bet the farm on a technology that they are unfamiliar with. Engineers are new to it, sales teams are new to it, manufacturing teams are new to it, assembly facilities are new to it, parts suppliers are new to it, SERVICE/MAINTENANCE personnel are new to it WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG???????? (Oh yeah, did you notice that Bob Lutz is already starting to whine that newcar standards are to tough and the government should soften regulations) Pretty sure I will wait a couple of model years for the bugs to get worked out before I buy one. Bet you the government buys a few to bail out GM

@ BRB Every car driven in America must be "federalized". Those would be standards. EX 1/ Vehicles MUST generate a certain amount of power. Mopeds are not allowed on freeways. Small electric vehicles asre not allowed on roadways (golfcarts). 2/ vehicles must meet crash STANDARDS. 3/ vehicles must meet performance STANDARDS. Braking, cornering (unsafe at any speed), fuel usage(cant use just anything out in public) electric?good, now lets make sure your battery wont cause any nasty problems if its in an accident. Number of lights? how bright? daytime lights? bumber? bumper performance solid object?bumber performance pedestrian? fire resistance engine bay? fire resistance occupant cell? DUDE ---- THERE ARE SO MANY STANDARDS IT BOGGLES

i personally believe this might save gm... its actually better than the prius i must say.. i mean i drive like 6 km for track/running... and 6 km back.... that can be done on one charge with this ride and still have a LOAD left over to go to downtown and then back lol WITHOUT GAS!!! :D:D

Actually, it looks better proportioned than that ugly Prius! Nice job GM! This should be a hit if it delivers. All manufacturers need to do similar cars and then we'll have competition and lower prices.

why does a person have to be blocking the car every picture shown above? I want to see the car properly, not with some bloke standing in front of them.

I agree, boring! Why does GM even bother when new technology when it can't design anything novel? I liked the show car!
