This one made history... lets hope the next can keep up with Boxter/Cayman, SLK and 350z.
But one thing is true, with those engines, its going to have power! All its missing is the driving to go with it. Will BMW handle the job? Think so!

The BMW Spartanburg Plant is in SOUTH Carolina, not North Carolina.

IMO, the Z4M was genius...it was the ultimate drivers/sports car, pure manual transmission with the I-6 and the great dynamics offered by only BMW, great car. Im glad to hear its only the plant thats having its Z4 production cut, the Z will live, just get built elsewhere.

No big loss. Now, to look at Porsche Boxsters, SLK's and 350z's.

The Z4.....
Another fine example of Chris Bangle's "flame-surface" styling. It truly deserved to sell a lot more cars than it did and was only prevented by some "short-sighted" critics who could not get their heads around the idea of BMW (Chris Bangle) re-inventing the BMW marque.
Again, along with the E65 7 Series, it formed the prong of BMW's new "corporate direction".
I could only wait impatiently for the other BMW models to adopt the same design theme.....

I agree, the Z4 was actually one of Bangles strokes of genius. Classic roadster proportions while breaking the mold and looking like nothing else and looking gorgeous at the same time. Great stuff here.

They say the next one will look a lot like the GINA concept. After going over those pics, this one looks quite a bit like it already, shapeshifting aside. The next one will probably be bigger with flatter headlights and sexier LED taillights, but more or less the same. And since it's probably getting the M3 V8, there won't be need for a bigger roadster a la the Z8. Thank god. I loved this car, and I don't care what anyone says, it was one of Bangle's best efforts. Because saloons need to be sedate, flame surfacing doesn't always work there (even though I personally love the 5 series), but a roadster is a good place to go buck-wild on the styling. Good job BMW. Make the next one even better.

To all those who thought that the Cayman/Boxter, Nissan 350z and the 350 SLK are better cars than the Z4M go have your heads checked for amnesia. Top Gear did a test drive on all these cars and i remember Hammond first taking the Z4 to their track and it was all over the track. He called it undrivable. He then took the Cayman to the track and he was impressed. YES! there was something wrong with this picture - a BMW undrivable! no way. He then took it to the track a second time only this time he drove by the scruff of the neck. Boy oh boy! you should have watched this coz then he understood why the Z4 stands heads and shoulders above it's competitors on dynamics. It blew his socks of and in closing he compared the Z4 to a hot red chilli and the cayman to 'oysters or something'. The end result was the Z4 beat the car that had beaten the Merc SLK. now howz that for a racing purist car.

The Z4, design-wise, has not aged AT ALL. Leaves me scratching my chin in complete bewilderment....The magnitude of the achievement!

P.S.Was there a facelift?

Do understand what a 4.0 V8 on that little 2 seater would feel like? If the 335 engine on the Z4 wont produce 0-60 under 4sec I'll be upset.
