First Video: 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 & 4S Facelift

It seems like only yesterday the first images and details were released of the 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera, but in actual fact it has been almost two months now. We have so far been limited to a small selection of press images of the model, but now we can present to you the first video of the 911 Carrera and Carrera 4S complete with commentary reminding us of all the nifty details that the engineers have fine tuned.

The updates for the 2009 model year revolve around the powertrain, the regular 3.6-liter unit hiding in the engine bay of the Carerra 4 is treated to a power boost of 20bhp bringing total output to 345bhp. The Carrera 4S is powered by a 3.8-liter power unit which has seen output boosted to 385bhp - an additional 30bhp. The Toptronic S automatic transmission system has been removed in favour of Porsche's brand new optional seven-speed automatic double-clutch gearbox dubbed Porsche-Doppelkupplung (PDK).

Exterior modifications are kept to a minimum with the incorporation of front and rear LED lights along with slightly redesigned bumpers.

Ahhhh Porsche. I love their cars (save for that fiasco of a front design from 1998 to 2005). Caymen and Boxster moreso than the ever soon to be heavier 911s. The 911s I prefer now are from 1995 to 1997, preference going to the Carrera 4S and Turbo models.

However, I can't break the mantra, "bring back the air cooled engines."

same here. and they look stunning in white. the 911 is in a diff league altogether. the italians and the other german powerhouses come and go but the 911 is still my dream car.

This 2009 model looks like an evolution of the 993, my favorite Porsche model, and is what the 997 should have been in the late 90's. Beautiful work, Porsche!

Boring !!! porsche in the begining came up with cutting edge products...ish , but now stick them in the microwave and reheat the same crap ..... come on wake up !!

People who beleive what you do are in the minority. There are more than enough buyers of 911s who LOVE the traditional looks, ensuring Porsche doesn't need to change the 911 from its ROOTS.

Didn't porsche overtake coca cola last year as the most recognizable brand in the world? I think they are on the right path, every boy dreamed of having a porsche 1 day and you know what it's great to be able to buy a 2009 model that still reminds you of the ones you had up on your wall as a kid. I know i dreamed of having a 1997 911 Turbo and the current models pay homage to it. Also y would they change it? their styling was always about purpose(aerodynamics) is it their fault they found the right design 50 years ago?

I heavily agree with that. Its comforting knowing, a current model Porsche will still look the classics.

perhaps that is all porsche is offering now, nostalgia for those kids who wet dream a 911, or those loyal customers. 20 years ago may be Porsche was 'the' sports car south of Ferrari. nowadays, you got you AMG, M, S, etc etc having performance matching or better your 911. nothing really exciting in their 911 lineup.

No AMG, M or S can come close to offering the euphoric driving experience that any 911 will. Think about it. There isn't an engine above the front suspension and steering rack. How much more detail will you feel through the wheel while driving without that 400lbs?

LOL...i love Benz...but don't be foolish. The Benz AMGs might have more power than the 911s but rest assured, the 911s will MURDER any AMG around a track. On a straight-up drag race they won't be too far behind either, because they're much lighter. Porsche is still the best European Sports car maker, simple.

to benz man, this is exactly how biased many porsche owner will tell you. exactly how euphoric is the 911? if the rear drive platform is so good, why was the CGT mid engine? to xanavi23, not exactly AMG but a Base model GT-R will MURDER the 911 C4 or C4S, and the Turbo as well. Porsche need to come up with something more interesting than boring.

M!, the GT-R is very fast as we are all aware. Im a Nissan man as well as a Benz and Porsch-er but thats the GT-R. I might have over-exaggerated the C4 being that fast...but it does weigh 400++ less pounds than say a CLK550 and it has almost the same amount of power. Clearly the Porsche will be better around a track. The CLK550 however has its own advantages, with so much weight at high-speed its firmly planted and tis torque also gives it good high end. Im not saying Benz makes crap...because thats stupid, but the Porsches are a far better all around balance IMO(performance stand-point). And don't forget the with the PDK, the C4 bested its own Ring time by 8 seconds. Thats alot, even on the Ring.

M!, its not about where the engine is, its about where it is not (over the steering rack). The euphoria I speak of is not about numbers, its about the way a Porsche feels when you're driving it. It's a compilation of sensory over-stimulation. Every 911 (all the way back to "In the beginning") tracks perfectly straight while offering up invaluable information on each little nuance of road detail (camber changes, road textures, tire adhesion, lane crests...) through the steering wheel, right into your hands! I cant explain to you why knowing what each front wheel is doing (and is about to do) is so important to the driving experience. Then there's the lusty thrum of the flat-6 behind you, the "fear not" brakes, the silky clutch engagement... I recommend you drive a 911 (any model, any year) to understand why 911 owners are so "biased". There's really no way to explain it without seeming like an ass.

Yes, my childhood dream +! Some people are accustomed to facelifts and new generations that change everything about a car, so they see they might see the 911 as "boring". I don't! Anyway, the car is already on sale, I've seen one in Bucharest a couple of days ago ;)

Beauty always in eye of beholder. Porsche has always been faithful to original design concepts and dares to remain so. World safety regulations influence so much car body design it must be hell for car designers to create some individuality these days.
