Caught on US Soil

Here are the best shots yet of the new Audi RS5, snapped by our spy photographer whilst doing some hot weather testing on US soil. The signature mesh grille gives this model away as an RS variant, however interestingly enough the rear still sports the S5's quad exhaust pipe layout instead of the dual large oval pipes normally accustomed to the RS range.

Sources indicate the same twin-turbo V10 engine from the RS6 could be used, however the quad exhaust layout is unlikely to be able to deal with the 580 bhp coming from this power unit. This leaves us speculating whether a detuned version of the RS6's V10 engine will be used pumping closer to 500bhp or perhaps a brand new unit could be debuted. Rumours circulating the net state Audi are developing a brand new 470hp 4.0 liter turbocharged TFSI V8 engine.

We expect to have answers to these questions when the model is unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show next year before it goes on general sale as a 2010 model.

seems to look the same as the one featured in CAR magazine

it doesn't look the same... just take the mesh for example - the holes are completely different shapes. the front bumper bares a resemblance, but this one has much bigger air intakes...which is a shame actually because i think the one in CAR is a real looker and what the RS5 should look like. then again, it hasn't got much work trying to look better than BMW's ugly duckling M3 does it?

4.0 liter 470hp, sounds like DTM spec, Audi may want to use their own technology instead of Mugen's...then put Audi TFSI power all over the livery.

Looks like a TT RS.

Is De Silva still at Audi?

Yeah but even in this rudimentary state it looks better than the M3. Shame, really.

Don't like that bumper at all... I really hope it won't look like that. It doesn't fit with the overall car at all. It fits the TT-RS, but not this one.

Ive only seen A5s around so far, but even those are gorgeous cars. This is even nicer, the rims are very nice, the powerplant is good, a great car. I personally love the front end...when you see a 5 in your mirror, its very menacing because of the front end design and the Leds.

Audi's new design theme has as much style as a mullet, only with "reverse" characteristics, like so: "Party Up Front/Business in the Back"

looks good but Audi should defintely widen up those fenders on the RS version.

esp front bumper looks ugly and a bit irrelevant. and also just more horsepower is nothing as we see on muscle cars. i dont think it will beat M3 also
