Begins to take production form

One year on from the first sighting of the C197 when our spies caught a badly assembled machine made from several old Dodge Viper parts, we can now bring you photos of the model in early development form. It has often been referred to as the Mercedes Gullwing but it is largely expected the final production model will carry the label SLC and with a model this sporty we should also see AMG in there somewhere.

The juicy details continue to evade the surface leaving us analysing the pictures you see before your eyes. We can see a strip of LED, daytime running lights along the bottom of the headlight clusters. There also seem to be additional LEDs in the top section of the headlight cluster. Another details that pops out are the large cross-drilled, slotted rotors. Those large rotors will be stopping a set of Pirelli tires. We're also pretty sure a large Mercedes star will be dead centre on the grill much like it appeared on the 300 SL.

The SLC is expected to be introduced at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, with a limited sales run of just two years and 12000 units and should carry a price tag of several hundred thousand dollars. We’re hearing horsepower estimates in the 550-650 range, with power expected to come from a forced-induction V8, or maybe even a V10.

the slr is a super car that has every thing power looks it is comfortable you can use it every day there is no super car that has its practicality. this will just be another merc it will never be as good as the SLR.

the funny thing is, this thing is gonna attract 10x more attention with the camo it has on then what it will probly look like without it.

SLR isnt that great car that you are saying. Ok, its a beauty, its got loads of power, practicality is an advantage but, driven like the supercar it is, it just doesnt get the job done... This SLC is only MB, no McLaren in the mix, and its suppose to be a tribute to the 1950s 300sl. In my opinion, it makes a lot more sense than a new SLR! Its about time MB makes a proper supercar... uhm... ok, SL blackseries aside! lol

I'm very intrigued by this, but... is it just me or does any one else think a huge c pillar makes a car look dated? I get the engineering behind it, however, I wonder how much weight they had to add for structural compensation due to the "gullwing?" Is it even worth it? I'd prefer lambo or enzo/F-1 doors if this layout proves not to be practical.

just cant imagine it beeing a looker based on the pics ive seen. The base design and the proportions just gives me the impression that its gonna be ugly but one can never know what its gonna look like in the end.

Sometimes you can get a pretty good idea of how a car will look with the camo on but with this one i can't tell. I guess i will have to wait to see the concept to pass judgement.

Merc has nver had a V10 why would they do one for this one. V10's are just not a mercedes-benz kinda engine.

Excatly....I totally agree with you! No way that V10 will Merc build just for this car! 1000% I am that it would be the M156 engine 6.2L V8 but with add of Supercharger (V8 Kompressor letter) or Twin Turbo (Biturbo letter)

Car under disguise barely hides the retrograde concept of this design. Probably globally noticed desinfrenchisment of industrial arts could be one reason to use "best traditions" of Merces Benz design. Second reason however is built-in consrvatism of MB.

French nobel-prized writer and existentialist philosopher, Albert Camus died in car accident, behind the wheel of previous gullwing model in 1960.
