Two variants of the all-new Opel Insignia were unveiled for the admiring public just last month at the British Motor Show in the hatchback and sedan bodystyles. Next month at the Paris Motor Show the wagon variant will be added to the range and now our spies can bring evidence to the table that development is well under way for the range topping OPC version.

It does make one wonder if the engineers working under the General Motors umbrella are being pressured into rushing out their new models, with four different variants coming out in such a short space of time.

This Opel/Vauxhall Insignia OPC prototype was spotted at the Nurburgring, there is a fair bit of camoflage on the front fascia which appears to be hiding larger air intakes. Under the hood it is rumoured that a modified version of the 260hp 2.8-Liter engine from the regular model will be used, featuring a new turbo charger system boosting power output to more than 300 ponies.

why would opel test this car on a track not like the insignia is a car that people will buy to go around the track with.

sorry but this car is not that googd looking. the glasshouse is very nice yes, but the lower body area is fat, too much metal and those wheels look lost in the arches. giving a bloated overweight look thats at odds with the upper section. and dont get me started on the horrendously bland fat front end. bulbous headlights, rubbish grille and overweight bumper with bonnet charachter lines running into it, accentuating the whole bulbous look. sorry vauxhall but it should have been a in your face athletic go getter front end to knock your socks off. even the astra looks more lithe than this bore. shame. mazda 6 shows how it should be done.

Ford really need to pull their finger out with the Mondeo ST, it's all gone quiet on that front recently. In 2.8 form the Insignia already has a 35bhp advantage over the range topping 2.5T Mondeo, the VXR is further going to increase this gap and leave the Mondeo in it's wake.
