but take a good look at the instrument fascia , it is a complete departure from everything Volkswagen , except for that telltale Bora/Jetta steering wheel .

No, all the hard points of the facia - the actual positioning of the elements, are as per the golf, A3 etc. Only the finishes and vent shapes are different.

Perhaps that's what that market wants...? Let's face it, Chinese food is different to German food. Pointless trying to force german-food down a, ...umm, chinese-food lover... Been to a German restaurant lately?

The Lavida looks very un-Euro indeed. It will sell well in China but I think it's wise on VW's part to keep this model available there only. As for China overtaking Germany as the VW's major market -- there's no surprises really and the same will happen to many more car makers down the track.
