First Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Sells for $2.9 million

Earlier we gave you the knitty gritty details about the new Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport, and we also revealed the very first model was up for auction. We can now tell you this chassis number one has been sold by auctioneers Gooding & Co. for a grand total of $2.9 million. But don't take my word for it, thanks to WCF user Ecnel we can also bring you a video of the entire event.

Bugatti have already announced the official pricing of the Grand Sport will be €1.4 million euros excluding taxes which equates to just over $2 million, therefore a premium of just under $900,000 or around 45% doesn't actually sound that bad.

For more details you can see the unveiling article here, or perhaps check out the high resolution photo gallery here.

a $900,000 convertible option? wow... simply wow, no amount of engineering in the world is worth that much.

ACtually it's not a $900 000 premium. the price for the car in Europe is €1.4 million and will be $1.4 million in the USA after order guide has hit the dealers. Bare in mind that many of the people who bid were located outside the US. Bugatti used the EU base price as the starting price.

It looks wonderful, but I can't abide those alloys. It would look much better with a modern t35 look wheel or the stock Veyron rims.

Do the people who buy these cars not have any heart at all? Can't they be satisfied enough with a Porsche 911 or even a Ferrari 699 GTB?? With all the poverty in the world, how can they be so unfeeling to spend THAT much on a car! And the car isn't even an engineering achievement! Nor is it a classic! Anyone can build an enormous engine to make a car go fast! This is no McLaren F1...

you can't even read! It was charity auction! You sound like an old communist saying that this car is bad, and yet you would like to have one. Type supercar showdown bugatti in youtube and watch Clarkson's talking about this car. This car is a masterpiece worth every single $ of it's price. It has F1 performance and can be easily driven by anyone who has license on public roads, driven in comfort and with luxury, isn't it marvelous?

I rather buy Audi RS6 (by B&B). This car might kick this car ass!! $900,000?? Pathetic expensive. Waste your money. Porsche 911 for me. Still the best Super Car.

Despite of the fact there is a chance to get it for more than on prospective buyer this Buggy still looks to me far more exclusive than Pininfarinas chinese Rolls.

Kimbo, I can read, write, and think better than you ever will. Do you have ANY sense of how much $2.9 million is to the average person in the world? How much of that $2.9 million is going to charity? Why not just give that money directly to charity! And by the way, I'm pretty sure that Jeremy Clarkson doesn't like the Bugatti Veyron as much he "says" he does on television... he and other people with an appreciation for engineering know that this car is NOT an engineering achievment. I'd rather have a Porsche 911 than that fancy shopping cart with a jet engine! And another thing, feeling for the poor and having common sense does not mean one qualifies as a communist. In fact, a person with the traits that you yourself exhibit would be considered closer is closer to a communist. Whatever... it's not my money that has been squandered...

if someone says this car is not engineering achievement that should be the end of discussion. It simply means his level of physics is pathetic. 2.9milion$ is someone's money and he can do whatever he want to: buy something, burn them or give to the charity. Try to care about your money and someone others, you socialist! I have driven 911 S and was on a Gallardo's passenger seat. And I can say that 911 is slow! Really after gallardo's ride it just doesn't feel fun and fast any longer. It is fast as far as you didn't drive faster car. And 911 is on Mitsubishi Evo X performance, and it is twice as cheap! You how many people you could help with that money you have left? So why buy 911? hahahahahaha
