Is this the 2010 Mazda3?

2010 Mazda3 Early Design Rendering?

Surfaces from EU's tradmark office

When we are looking for the latest designs of upcoming models, the EU Tradmark Office is hardly going to be our first port of call. But in the case of the 2010 Mazda3, we can tell you this has certainly been the case. The hackers over at Carscoop have managed to obtain a couple of documents (see additonal photos to the right) which seem to trademark the designs of the next generation Mazda3 model in all 27 countries of the EU.

We can't rule out the possibility that these drawings of the hatchback version of the Mazda3 could be fake, comparisons between these images and the camoflaged Mazda3 prototypes caught by our spies certainly show design similarities on the front end. Prototypes spotted so far have been solely in the sedan body style, making rear end comparisons too difficult to categorically confirm or deny.

We expect to see the sedan variant unveiled at the Los Angeles Motor Show this November, with the hatchback set to follow a couple of months later in Detroit.

Wow, this really is uglier....

now it's safe to say that the Impreza is finally a better looker than this POS.

Mazda... don't waste your time with that design above. It's crap!

I think its going to look better once the window frames, B-pillars and grill section are painted black.

I would say so. It's a mix of the new 6, the new 2 and an evolution of the old 3. Not bad but I doubt it'll make people change their minds on buying a Focus or Golf.

How it might look like with the black window frames, B-pillars and grill...

nice work AG4, it probably will look just like this, but I personally still don't like the design, the problem is I saw some much nicer renderings of how the new 3 may look like, and this is just no match for them

This is not the new three, at best it is a mockup that was done as a study of other themes shared by the larger siblings. If I am way off base and this is the production model, then the edge the made the Mazda 3 a success, just got really dull. Hope for the best, anything but this.

Judging by what they did with the 2009 US spec Mazda6 vs the Euro version it is likely they may pull something like this. If they do, then that means kia and suzuki will soon pass them as making sporty vehicles. Now I like the mazda6 but it has nothing on the Euro version. I just hope they take a step forward rather than backwards. Subtly to me is the key, they have a 2013 mazda3 that they are working on so they should try design something that is going to take them on into 2013
