Ever since the Audi R8 was first unveiled, the public has been demanding further variants of the model. The only solid evidence that an open top version of the sportscar is coming was a leaked roll out schedule from late last year which stated we will likely see an Audi R8 Targa in March 2009. Despite this date fast approaching we are yet to see any evidence from our spies, but all other models on the schedule have so far been correct, so who are we to argue?

In anticipation, germancarscene user Marcel has produced a new rendering of what the new model could look like.

The audi R8 is all nice on the inside, but it is very crampt and can get boring, soft top gives you more room and stuff, truly the r8 is no where near a TT.

this car will die if it's made into a "targa" or convertible... i will lose my interest in this car. It just doesn't show as much of the beautiful curves it used to show with the normal version. This just looks dull and... cheap lol :(

gallardos, f430s, turbos etc. all have "open" brothers. so no big deal. anyway i hope it´s gonna be a targa not a spyder. cause a spyder is too girlie imho.

man. was i nervous when i opened this page. i remember the las spy photo of the r8 targa looked like a smart roadster, without the top... and i hated it. this looks very nice. i think it's a great design

UHM? The leaked roll out schedule clearly says R8 Targa. Where is this convertible coming from? ... This is especially surprising because they can't make an R8 convertible due to the mid-engine layout, which I'm sure has been mentioned in previous relevant articles/threads. It's pretty, yes, but preposterous.

Doesen't the Gallardo have a mid engine layout because there is a convertible version of it, if they could do it for the Gallardo then surely they can do it for the R8 don't you think? I too hope its a targa though. That way it wouldn't loose any of the great design and I think a targa is more practical than a soft top.
