Rather to wait and see the real version instead an illustration this October in Paris... the V6 was heavier than the 2.0 TFSI, maybe will have better perfomance with this one...

Hope the new GTI, does look the part as I think I prefer the current GTi!

I've read dozens of golf reviews and nobody has ever recommended or justified the extra expense of the r32. Most said the extra weight altered the handling and it wasn't as fun to drive recommending the GTI instead.

Lighter is better but the haldex unit, (AWD System) of the R32 made it more fun to drive, having the ability to put the power down during and exiting a corner. But now with the the 2.0T joined with AWD it will defintely be an improvement in the handling department, although the tone and power delivery of the Narrow angle V6 (VR6) will be dearly missed.

This is great and all, but what about the Jetta MK6 GLI or even the regular one? Anyone know if that car is receiving a face lift as well?

Hope the Jetta will receive another different look vs Golf, with an unique personality... today it looks only like a Golf with a trunk

Hasnt Jetta always been as such? a golf turned into a sedan for the american market primarily??
The jetta has its own looks, making it look very different from a golf is a waste of money considering its limited to few markets.
It makes more sense to just give the jetta a few tweaks here and there

Because that's what it was orginaly intended for, since the early days of the mk1 Paulds. They wanted something for the American market.
Anyways, so the R32 is trading in it's current acronyms for GTI-R? If you ask me I think "GTI-R" is quite a mouthfull. R32 sounds so much better. And about this 265 hp thing.... Ok, so we have a claimed 265 hp, but what the torque number? What is that like? It should peform better without the weight of a VR6 powerplant fasten to the engine bay, but there is the 4Motion system in place. It may give it the extra scoot-to-60 power it needs, but the last time I checked, an AWD system straped to a European compact was sort of strenuous to that given vechicle. It will need a generous amout of torque to set a decent 0 to 60 time. I think VW should take a few ideas from their cusins to the south at Stuttgart and just take what they have and run with it. And by that; I meant take 2.0L and turn it into 2.5, use lighter materials when fabricating the moving innards of the powerplant. And for every good power train, there should be an exceptional suspension system to complement it. Feel free to borrow Audi's Magnetic Ride if need be the case (after all, you guys are family). All in all, they should really put thought and passion into it all (not like they've never done so before), when constructing the thing.

I agree...I like the RXX style name than the GTI-R nomenclature.
The GTI-R...please excuse my moronic comment that I am about to make...sounds so Japanese...
Call it the Golf R20 or something!

The Jettas are my next favorite VW and I am curious to see what facelift that car is going to receive. That was why I mentioned it. So far the hype is that VW has really made one hell of a facelift on the car and it looks damn promising. But I have not seen any pictures yet, nor any articles.
Back on topic: In all honesty, I have to agree with tootall here. With an AWD system, that car better be much lighter than its predecessor now, or have a tremendous amount of torque to produce good enough power to all four wheels, to have a decent naught-to-60 time. However, I will have to add ontop of tootall's post and say VW better improve their quality in their cars. Because an AWD system to fail or go bad can be quite expensive.

Maybe it was hot but I really remember seeing a Golf V GTi-R...
Anyway having driven the 2.0T, in an Audi though, I reckon it's a good thing that that VR6 engine is being laid to rest. It's a great engine and I reckon it will do the Golf GTi-R (or R20, whateva you wanna call it) better justice than the 3.2 V6.
Plus at high altitudes, my cousin burnt an R32 in his (almost) standard 2.0T Sportback.

This is an old render.. even the headlights are different. I do like the name GTI-R though. =)

The Jetta is much more than just a Golf sedan,it is the third highest seller in the entire VW empire,and last year sold 630000 units world wide.
In adition over 8 million have been sold since its launch.
This model is now made in Mexico,China,and South Africa,as well as in the huge developing markets of India and Russia,so the new Jetta will be crucial to VW s future success.

The horsepower is great but what would be even better is if VW builds a car thats more reliable than a british car with lucas electrics.

Lads, this is an old render. Big way you can tell is staring right out in your face with the front of the car. I do not think the new pictures of the GTI-R or the Jetta (and GLI) are out yet. I hope WCF can get them soon, especially the Jetta.

i have a 2007 jetta 2.5 and its so much more then a golf with a trunk as allot of u say,, its faster then ur standard 2.0 golf allot more sportier and sounds insane with that inline 5,, god i love my car and i hope the new one inst that much better cuz i don't wanna change it this soon

finally... i was getting sick of the R32, i mean the engine. i wonder, why they put it inside the car, in the first place. 3.2L and 250 bhp, pathetic. it was the lamest in it's class. im sure that with the 2.0L turbo the GTI-R will perform much better, and i hope much cheaper. anyhow...
this 11 hp power increase, is kinda weird. i remember audi and vw, both had the 2.0L turbo in 2 powers: 200 bhp and 220 bhp. so they say that the new golf VI has a power increase, cause the droped the 220 engine, and incresed the power in the 200 engine? ..or what? cause to me, thsi sounds stupid. they might as well droped the 200 engine, keep the 220 engine, give it 11+ bhp..and the resutl is 231 bhp. now that's power increase, not what....they assume they achieved. besides, how much did it cost them to make this "enourmouuuss" power increase, 20$?..changing the air filter, or the muffler. wow...
