Tata Nano First Photos in Assembly Line

Production preparations for the world's cheapest car, the Tata Nano, are under way at the Tata Motors Singur plant. Sources state, Tata has set a deadline for key vendors, particularly those setup in the adjacent Singur vendor park, to start producing components by August 15 and deliver them within the first week of September. In turn, the first batch of Nano's will be ready by September 15 with their market launch in October as originally planned.

Core criticism for the Nano stems from its accessible pricing, and therefore suggests a sudden movement towards mass motorization in developing nations adversely affecting urban areas where the transportation infrastructure is already overwhelmed in addition to further pollution while increasing demand for oil.

Tata Motors still moves on. German engineering firm, FEV, is currently developing an 800cc turbo CRDI engine for the Nano. Such an engine beats out Daimler for the title of world's smallest engine with common rail technology. Furthermore, French firm, MDI, is working on compressed air technology while a micro-hybrid with stop-start technology is also expected.

em.. this is not meant for the rich.. this is a car for the low income population in India, who use 2 wheelers for transport.. this is a safer option any day.. n Mr.Ratan Tata actually came up with this idea when he saw a man in a scooter carrying his wife a nkids when it was pouring.. this is a much better option hence, isn't it? and trust me.. the monsoon in India can really beat many of the famous "hurricanes" hollow!! this car is an option for the people who actually want to buy a 2 wheeler but cant afford a car.. n trust me again, there are a lot many more unsafe cars than this in India.. n that too from world famous companies!!

for heaven's sake.. this is atleast crash tested.. n the slightly more expensive ones could even have ABS n an airbag.. just coz they r making it cheap doesnt mean that the car's going to be bad!! :O

of these only the suzuki800 could be the rival for the nano and probably the unsafer one. the ikon and the tavera have been in the market for a wile but unsafe? i dont think so.

Ive never heard of a suzuki or ford thats worse than a NANO , If you pay £2000 for a car you only really expect it to last a couple of years , if you pay £6000 you are more likely to get 5 to 8 years .Its not who makes a car these days its how , and what materials are used. I would rather go on my donkey than drive one of these ridiculous cars ...

If it only costs $2500 what do the workers get ? .. it sounds like slave labour is back in ..

Wolff. Why are you even bothered about the NANO, This car is not even marketed for people like you. Be grateful that at least you can afford a safer car. There are a lot of people out there who will welcome a cheap form of transport.

This car is aimed at the developing countries who's incomes are way lower than the western world.

It's funny you guys are poking fun at the Indian auto industry now. A couple of decades ago...it was the Japanese who had to bear the brunt of western stupidity..lol..and without an ounce of shame, everyone's in line to gulp down every single car Honda/Toyota/Nissan etc have to offer. Next in line were the Koreans...only for them to be the next best option after the Japanese right now. And what are the American brands upto? Nothing much apart from being bought out by venture capitalist firms, knee deep in sh*t and trying to come up with ways to come out of their grave they have dug themselves into. And the Brits? The less we speak the better. Rolls Royce = BMW, Land Rover = Ford and now TATA...same goes for Jaguar, MINI = BWM, Bently = VW, Aston Martin = Ford, Lotus = Proton, MGF = Some chinese firm (can't rem the name)...the list is endless.
