We've been expecting the official release of the Porsche Cayman S Sport, but Porsche takes us by surprise with a simultaneous revealing of the Porsche Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2. With the Cayman S Porsche Design Edition 1 and the Boxster RS 60 Spyder special series now completely sold out, Porsche is following up by swapping trim packages for the two mid-engined sports cars.

Available in dealerships in early September, both Cayman and Boxster special editions finally break the 300 bhp mark with the 3.4-liter flat six producing 8 bhp more for a total of 303 bhp (223 kW) via a new sports exhaust.

The Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2 is available in Carrara White, 19-inch SportDesign wheels, side air intakes, the centre console and the dials on the three round instruments are also finished in white plus grey stripes extending lengthwise along the body. Also included is the Porsche Design Edition 2 Chronograph men’s wristwatch from the Dashboard Collection features a white face and was developed especially for this very special Boxster.

The Cayman S Sport will only see 700 units made, as distinguished by the number plaque on the glove box, but will be available in other colors besides the bright orange shown. The Cayman S Sport gets PSM, 10mm lowered suspension, plus alcantara in the interior, Sports Chrono package and of course the RS style graphics.

I like it, it doesnt seem like much but in a lighter car like this it'll make a difference at least in feel and sound. The paints cool too, its a Porsche throw-back.

these 'limited editions' are almost like old tried hollywood actress trying to get more press time.

it used to be exciting to look and drive a porsche but this Porsche Design Edition 2 is boring compare to consumer products by porsche design.

their edition 1 cayman was at least more mystique and interesting to look at.

the Cayman S Sport is a little redundant. isn't the "S" = Sport already?

No? then which company used to produce the Carrera GT? or who makes the Turbo, GT3, GT2 and also the endless list of racecars which have won many more races than Ferrari along all these years? Wasn't it Porsche? Please correct me if I'm wrong

Loyo, come on brother...hes right, Porsche doesnt offer performance like Ferarri. Porsche offer better performance at a cheaper price. Hmmmz...Porshe has 23 Le Mans victories alone in a period of only about 40 years. Thats just THAT race.

Hmmmz? Porshce once even tried their hand at Formula 1 in one race....oh yea.....they destroyed the competition the first time out. However unlike Ferarri Porsche felt it was more important to maintain control of their Car Company unlike Enzo who only cared about racing; sold his stock to FIAT long ago. So Porsche bowed out of Formula 1, even though they probably would have had more championships than the Scuderia.

Now don't get me wrong Loyo. What I meant was that Porsche is'nt concentrating on supercars, they're just worried about selling more cars. Affordable sports cars are OK. But Porsche should'nt forget supercars.

I'll name 3: 2003 Porsche Carrera GT (3.4"), 2006 Porsche 911 Turbo (3.6") and 2008 Porsche GT2 (3.4").

The new GT2 comes with 530HP, carbon brakes, does 0-100 in 3.4", has a top speed of up to 200mph, weighs about 1400kgs and does the Nurburgring in 7:32'... I know it has 10 cylinders and 2 turbos less than a 1000HP Veyron, but I still think it is a proper supercar, and with a price tag of about USD 200'000, I don't think it can be considered as "affordable" by most people.

530 hp is'nt enough when compared to Ferrari's 620 hp. The GT2 has a 0-100 time of 3.8 seconds. And the Carrera Gt is no longer in production. but the GT2 does feel special so it IS a supercar. But Porsche could've done much better.

Porsche makes great cars. But so does Ferrari. You are terribly mistaken if you think that one is better than the other. Each quite different, but both absolutely genius.

Gran Turismo what are you talking about ? 530hp is enoough considering the 911 GT2 is lighter than the FIORANO by 600lbs !!! 600lbs is a HUGE difference.

The GT-2 also makes more torque, has the same 0-60 time and has a top speed just 1mph shy of the 599. All that for a car that costs a 1/3rd of the price of a Fiorano. You can't forget how ridiculously mark-up a Fiorano is.

lol... 0-100 in 3.5? Porsche has that. And they GT2 does 3.6 with a manual gearbox, considering the fact that Porsche invented the Double Clutch transmission, they could have easily opted to put that transmission in the GT2 and we all know what that would do to the car's performance.

None of the cars above mentioned were designed for drag racing, so I don't think the 0-100 figure is the most relevant one when you talk about their performance. Performance includes many other aspects, and one of the best places on Earth to find out how does a car perform is the Nurburgring, not just a 1/4 mile road. I am pretty sure that the Fiorano (named after the "race" track where Ferrari tests all of their cars) can't beat a Turbo, a GT2, a GT3 or a Carrera GT around the Nurburgring. By the way, NO ONE here has said that Porsche makes better cars than Ferrari: You were the one who stated that Porsches still don't offer Ferrari-like performance... and that my friend, is not true.

Ok....so the 599 Fiorano is worth 3X the price of a 911GT2...because it does 0-60 .2 seconds faster and cause its top speed is 1mph faster ? If you think so...you either **** MONEY DAILY or you're off your rocker. Where i live, for the price of a 599 you can buy a 911 GT-2 AND a pretty DAMN nice house. I'll take the GT-2 and a house thanks.

Secondly Ferarris are meant to be driven around a track. Guess what my man ? Porsche's GT-2 does just as good around a track as Ferarris current best track-car; the F430 Scuderia. The 430S is a great car but its not really greater than the GT-2 and it CERTAINLY isn't worth almost double the price of a GT-2.

"Face the reality"? The 911 GT2 beat the Fiorano AND the F430 Scuderia around the Nurburgring, so I really couldn't care less if it does 0-100 in 3.4, 3.6, 3.8 or 4.0 seconds.

Dont forget Loyo, and that was without the PDK transmission which made the regular Carerra 4S 8 seconds faster around the 'Ring. So by the same logic, the GT-2 has at least another 4 seconds to drop and im being conservative here. On other tracks where even more shift work is needed will ensure the GT-2 will be even faster.
